Uefa Cup Seedings

Well, who would have thought it eh? After that first half performance, it would appear that Everton were not going to make the next round of the UEFA Cup, but the boys come good in the end.
Originally, if the teams that were seeded higher had gone through, then Everton were due to be in Pot 5 in Tuesday's draw. However, after the results last night, Everton are now in Pot 3 - having moved up 13 places.
The teams that got knocked out, who were seeded higher than us, were:
RC Lens
Sochaux
Getafe CF
Rapid Bucharest
Real Zaragoza
Dinamo Bucharest (yes them!)
Brugge
Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk
Heerenveen
Sampdoria
Blackburn Rovers
Palermo
Ajax
Pre-empting UEFA, the pots for the group stages should look like this:
Pot 1 - Villareal, Bayern Munich, AZ Alkmaar, Panathinaikos, Basel, Bordeaux, Bayer Leverkusen, Anderlecht.
Pot 2 - Tottenham Hotspur, Zenit St. Petersburg, Lokomitiv Moscow, Sparta Prague, AEK Athens, Hamburg, Bolton Wanderers, Austria Vienna - but we can't be drawn against Tottenham or Bolton.
Pot 3 - Spartak Moscow, Braga, Galatasary, Athletico Madrid, Fiorentina, Stade Rennais, Hapoel Tel-Aviv and of course US! Thus, we cannot be drawn against any of these teams.
Pot 4 - Crvena Zvezda (aka Red Star Belgrade), FC Copenhagen, Toulouse, Dinamo Zagreb, Panionios, FC Nuremberg, Mlada Boleslav, Aris Thessaloniki.
Pot 5 - Twente, Aberdeen, Zurich, Larissa, Aalborg, SK Brann, Elfsborg, Helsingborgs.

After the horror, then virtual disbelief that we actually progressed last night, I've been having a look at the seeding pots for the UEFA Cup group stages to think about who we'd like to get in the draw! We are in Pot 3 of 5 (mainly due to a lot of higher rated teams surprisingly going out last night, Ajax in particular)
Here's who I'd like:
Pot 1: Bayern Munich or Villarreal. The toughest draw but given our history against these two it would be great to have a go at them again. Especially Villarreal!!
Pot 2: We can't get Spurs or Bolton so I'll plump for Austria Vienna from Pot 2, seem to recall we're quite tasty against teams from Vienna!!! Hope we avoid Lokomotiv Moscow, don't fancy any points from a trip there!
Pot 4: Selfishly I'd take Copenhagen from this group as its a fab city to go drinking in and an away game there would be a must-attend!! Probably best to avoid Zagreb as they did for Ajax last night!!
Pot 5: Aberdeen anyone? Go on then! There are dangerous minnows in here, Larissa did for Blackburn and Aalborg shocked Sampdoria. Pittodrie's probably the better away game here!
If we play like last night anyone will have a field day with us, but we live to fight another day so let's enjoy the ride (if we can)!!!
When does the next round take place - I just want to know so I can have a defibrillator on standby
Just pick the furthest most difficult places to get to from each of the "pots" and that’s who we will get. Just glad Tel Aviv are in our pot!
Aberdeen would be ideal. Though of course they put out a Ukranian team above the one we just struggled past.
Would be interesting to see who plays more long balls Everton lying 5th in "the best league in the world" or Aberdeen 3rd bottom of the SPL with a squad worth less than Cahills motor.
Just a minor point but my understanding is that Getafe got through on away goals. We will still be in Pot 3 but Stu T will be concerned to know that Hapoel Tel-Aviv are likely to be in Pot 4. Couldn’t agree more that we don’t want to travel that far but maybe, if we do get them, they will be one of the home games.
My ideal draw would be Anderlecht, Hamburg, Toulouse (rubbish against the Reds) and Aberdeen.
My eleven yr old son has told me he’d love to see the blues away in europe, but as the games are on a school night does anyone know any decent bunking off gems. All suggestions considered no prizes for the winner im afraid thanks....coyb
Well knowing are luck, we will get.
Bayern Munich, Lokomotiv Moskow, Dinamo Zagreb and Larissa.
Eeer...Getafe is in, isn’t it?
Home games vs Bayern ( for obvious reasons ) and some of the easier teams would be nice and away games in Copenhagen ( good for a beer, although it could be very cold! ), Hamburg ( ditto, but a stadium with a retractable roof ) and Prague ( ditto beer and cold ) could all be fun. Suppose it might be better going to mediterranean locations in view of the cold weather further North and we definitely don’t want any away games in Russia or Norway! Also glad we can’t go to Galatasaray with their knob-end fans and we don’t really fancy a trip to Red Star Belgrade either where they have a very serious problem with hooligans wielding guns at present! Then again, one of my mates lives in Munich so that could be good..... actually, let’s just wait and see - I’m just glad we’re in it at all!!!!!
