Pre-match From My Seat

By Ken Buckley :  21/03/2008 :  Comments (12) :
Not being one for pre-match predictions as I can never believe what comes out from manager, Official Site or any other source regarding player fitness and availability, and quite rightly so as why should we give the opposition any advance info.

Apart from the definite non-starters such as Vaughan, Gravesen or Van der Meyde the rest seem to be doubts awaiting late fitness tests which could mean anything. The team and bench will ultimately be assembled from those fully or partialy fit and available for some or all of the game.

Those that are chosen should by now be free of the mental and physical tiredness that blighted their performance at Fulham and with home advantage ought to be able to get the three points to keep us on track to upset maybe one applecart.

It's at this time of the season with injury, suspension and just plain old burnout taking their toll that the squad assembled via two transfer windows will determine our season long fate.

The now famed 'Run-in' determines the wisdom of squad building by both club and manager as well as the bottle of the players to overcome any percieved inadequacies that they may have re-sqad strength.

Tomorrow I go in the hope that whatever line-up is available the players that are handed the Blue shirt will step up to the plate and do us proud along with the assembled Blue hoards playing their part to roar them on.

Too late now for excuses, the dye was cast months ago, it's all down to skill, grit and determination from all available to be at the 'Old Lady' come 5-15 tomorrow.

UP THE BLUES!

I have an early start in the morning, at 4:45am no less, as I?m flying in from Dublin for the game. But I cannae wait to get back to the Old Lady to cheer the lads on.

It will be interesting to see how Moyes goes team formation-wise, considering the few injuries we have. A powerhouse pairing of The Yak & Big Vic upfront from the start would be very nice to see. Well, do you think they would have the potential to form an effective partnership over the 90 minutes ? most definitely a handful for any defence? Not too sure Moyes will opt for it though. He will probably play 5 across the midfield with The Yak as the lone stiker and Ossie in the Cahill-type support role. Anyway, if your reading this at 3pm I?m probably in the Blackhorse enjoying a well deserved post-morning travel, pre-match pint as we speak. COYB!

I think we could see something like this:

GK: T. HOWARD
RB: P. NEVILLE
CB: J. YOBO
CB: P. JAGIELKA
LB: J. LESCOTT

RM: M. ARTETA
CM: L. CARSLEY
CM: M. FERNANDES
LM: S. PIENAAR

AM: L. OSMAN

CF: A. YAKUBU

I like the look of that team to be honest and if you look at whats available its the most positive and attacking which is what we need in a must win game. If we lose this then I think where out of the race for 4th. AJ and Cahill look like there going to be ruled out but according to a few papers Fernandes is back and in contention.

To be honest though Hibbert will probably start at right back, Neville in midfield and Osman off the striker.

I saw Andy Johnson at a local resutrant in Manchester last night and he told me that he isn't fit for this weekend but should be ok for the derby. Yak on his lonesome it is then...

I'm not sure about Manny being back...think he is still injured. Hope we can have AJ back atleast on the bench as an option in case of an emergency. Don't think that Cahill will be fit though. As long as we don't have Neville and Carsley together in the middle of midfield, I'm ok. If AJ, Cahill and Manny are out, I would go with:
Keeper: Howard
LB: Lescott
CB: Yobo
CB: Jagielka
RB: Neville
LM: Baines
RM: Arteta
CM: Carsley
CM(more on the left side ): Pienaar
CM(more ont he right side): Ossie
CF: Yakubu

Subs:
Wessels
Hibbert
Anichebe
Agard/Baxter
Rodwell

I think that the width can come from Baines and Arteta.Ossie just behind the Yak and Carsley in front of the back 4. Alternatively, send Pienaar onto the right and keep Arteta in the middle. Whatever the team is, we need to play with the confidence that we have been playing all season long coz what happened last weekend was a blip and will be forgotten as we march forwards... .COYB

Regarding the striker situation - Can we loan a striker at the moment from somewhere?

Whats that Blue supporter doing at present?

Nugent is passionate about Everton, shouldn’t we at least get some back up and give the kid a chance? I know he’s performed not that well at Portsmouth but I feel he’s just upset the Blue’s aint picked him. lol

If Fernandes is fit, then I’ll go with the first formation :)

In my humble opinion, I think Moyes would like to have some options on the bench, which for me means big Vic on the bench and a 4-5-1 formation. I imagine a central midfield of Carsley and Neville with Fernandes coming on with big Vic just after the hour mark. I like the idea of using Baines at left midfield and moving Pienaar inside if only while Fernandes is not fit. West Ham have very little to play for so I'm hoping for, well in truth, expecting a victory... COYB

Apparently Fernandes is fit and Anichebe and Cahill are both late fitness tests with Moyes saying if he?s fit he?ll have to play for Australia midweek!!!

I think if Cahill is fit he will play the first half and the bring big Vic on in the second half.

Cahill links well with Yak although I do like the idea of moving Pienaar inside and playing Baines out left.

I’m Aussie, and I’d rather IF Cahill is fit, that he play for Everton and Everton only for this week, and not risk a midweek disappearance to Kunming (I live in Beijing now, but its still too blardy far, lol)

The games left for us now are too important. He played his part against Qatar, he should really skip this trip during the week. We should be fine without him..

Still, I’d love to be in Kunming, watching him play, since I missed by a week, watching him play Qatar in Melbourne as I had just left :( But Everton, for me is more important and I hope so for him too.

Moyes has a real headache on the attacking front for the game with West Ham United later this day. Johnson is almost certainly going to be a noteable absentee, while Vaughan and Victor Anichebe don’t look like they wil be able to make the sqaud either.

Let’s face it, with a full strength side Everton would of had little trouble in disposing of the East London side today, but with key players missing, and with the Hammers having some individuals themselves who can cause problems to any opposition, today’s outcome is by no means assured. I think the club will win, maybe by one goal, it will be no walk in the park or easy matter, but I am confident that by the end of tonight we will indeed be level on points once again with that shower.

I’m hoping for a United victory tomorrow for obvious reasons, but by the same token I have no love lost for either side so let the best team win between the two of them. I’d rather concentrate on matters at Goodison Park then other teams outcomes.

Here’s to three points against West Ham later this evening, you read it here first.
