I agree that VDM is a talent worth taking a gamble on - especially with the loaded schedule this season

But we seem to be relying on these mercurial types (McFadden, Beattie, young Vidarsson, Pienaar) to step in and contribute.

If it comes off, we could have a fantastic squad - if it doesn’t, well, we’re carrying high priced garbage.

I rate McFadden & Pienaar, and Beattie for mine can be a poor mans Viduka - if he ever manages to get through his current ’2nd touch is a tackle’ form. Don’t know enough of Vidarsson to go one way or the other on him.

But the key for mine is the form of VDM - our only ’pure’ winger. Here’s hoping he’s finally woken up to himself, and puts in a performance worthy of his undeniable natural talents.

Well I hope your right to have confidence in him as I’ve npt really seen him turn it on for us. I must admit though, its a bit harsh for someone to be ’embroiled in scandel’ for having had their car and dog pinched and their house broken into! I reckon if all that had happenned to me last year I would turned to the booze and wouldn’t have done well at work - oh hang on!!!!

I think you’re somewhat unfair in your assessment of Moyes’ handling of wingers. Blomquist disappeared into obscurity after Moyes released him and Rodrigo sustained a serious injury shortly after joining on loan so no one really got to see anything of him before his time was up.

Thats probably the most information I have heard on Andy Shandy. I think Wilfred is right about the wingers. I remember Blomquist having a great game against Bolton and was taken of. He had a little tizz with Moyes and we never saw him again.

I disegree with Mark. I would say in about 5 of the 7 games he started last season he was one of the better players on the pitch. I really do hope he turns I around because I genarally feel sorry for him as I do Beattie. The difference is Beattie has played a lot and showed little talent whereas VDM has played little and showed flashes of brilliance.

Wilfred,I don’t think the reason he is still here is down "Moyes inexplicable faith in him"It’s probalby down more to it costing £2-£3m that we would have to pay out to him, if we fucked him off.I bet Moyes would love to get shut today if he could. Also, how many chances should the man be given? If I had acted like he has in my job,I would have been sacked a long time ago.You also have to remember,he is being paid mega bucks in wages since he has been here, and in my opinion, hasn’t earned a penny of them.

On his day he can be great, he ripped Konchesky apart at West Ham last season. He’s obviously rarely fit and stamina plays apart in any game he plays.

Wingers like Ronaldo, Robben & co are not expected to track back the way Moyes expects VDM too. That is probably why Moyes hasn’t got a great record with wingers.

For everyone that says it’s his last chance (and keeps saying it), do we have a choice? Our squad is threadbare so we have little option but to play him at some point. We also have to bare in mind nobody wants him so if we do just leave him to rot in the reserves we just pay his wages. Let’s get behind him when he plays, who knows he may surprise us for the good.

Never has so much hot air been spouted over such a wanker as Van der Meyde. The man is a total waster who has thrown away his talent and is just a lucky bastard to have had an agent who could fool Moyes into signing him. He’s only still on the books because no other club is stupid enough to take over his ridiculously inflated wages.

He may well possess great talent - but to say we treat him too harshly is a joke. The man earns more in a week than most fans who pay to watch him earn in a year.

He’s spent 2 seasons at GP without contributing hardly anything to the club. When "fit" he’s been sweating like a race horse after 30 minutes & is blatantly a man who (to this point at least) has hardly been living the life of a highly paid athlete!

He’s got another season to prove us wrong (mainly beacuse I suspect there’s been no takers - at the wages level he’s on) it’s up to him - I’d love to see him at his best - but I’m not holding my breath.
