Jags: We need to help out with goals

Phil Jagielka scored what was only his third League goal in four seasons as Everton eventually saw off Wigan yesterday and acknowledged that the onus for scoring falls on the whole team right now.

"We all play a part not only scoring goals but defensively," he says.

"We have never relied on one person. Tim got nine and Jermaine Beckford got 10 and the two or three others got to three or four [last season].

"I am sure the gaffer wold love five or six of us on five-plus and a couple of other ones in double figures.

On his own slim return in the goals department, the defender admitted, "It is a little bit embarrasing. It is something I will try to address, although I've not had that many chances.

"We have changed things around with set-pieces this year and I feel more confident every time I have come up that if I am not going to get a chance someone else will."
