Moyes reflects on another injury crisis

David Moyes has reflected on the lack of players he faced ahead of the FA Cup 5th Round win over Blackpool. Steven Pienaar was cup-tied while Landon Donovan was stricken with flu. Tim Cahill was injured while Phil Jagielka, Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell are still working their way back from injuries, as is Victor Anichebe, while Nikica Jelavic remains stricken by athletic pubalgia, and Shane Duffy has an ankle injury.

Matters were worsened before kick off as Leighton Baines was taken ill during the warm-up but was able to soldier on for the full 90 minutes, and Moyes claims he cannot recall a similar crisis.

"The amount of players we had out, I don't know if I've had it as bad really. I'm sure I have but it felt that way," said the Everton manager.

"We didn't have Landon and Bainesy was sick on the pitch in the warm up. He was ill as anybody. I was going to take him off the team sheet 10 minutes from the start but I said 'come on, give it a go and we'll see how you are'.

"So for him to play says a lot about him. He's changed a lot, Leighton Baines; He's tough, resilient and he's turning out to be a really good player, which he is.

He added: "Tim Cahill feels that he's carrying two or three injuries at the moment. We were really short today and not having Jelavic, Jagielka, Osman, Rodwell and Anichebe, it was a big ask.
