Previous USA Tours

This will be the 6th time in 8 years that Everton will have played pre-season in the USA. Is it a "team-building jolly" that can be justified – or will the usual ToffeeWeb shouts of "poor build-up, poor start to season" be muted? For the record, here are the pre-season matches played in North America, along with the resulting season for you to judge. Looking at those records, it seems to be that since 2008 our season starts have been poor:

2004 — Houston

Pachuca (Mexico) W 5-2
Club America (Mexico) L 1-3

Everton league progress 2004-2005

Everton finished season in 4th place - W 18, D 7, L 13, F 45, A 46, Pts 61

2006 — Ohio and Dallas

Columbus Crew — D 1-1
Club America (Mexico) — D 1-1

Everton league progress 2006-2007

Everton finished season in 6th place - W 15, D 13, L 10, F 52, A 36, Pts 58

2007 Salt Lake City and Los Angeles

Real Salt Lake — L 0-2

Everton league progress 2007-2008

Everton finished season in 5th place - W 19, D 8, L 11, F 55, A 33, Pts 65

2008 — Chicago and Denver

Chicago Fire — L 0-2
Colorado Rapids — W 2-1

Everton league progress 2008-2009

Everton finished season in 5th place - W 17, D 12, L 9, F 55, A 37, Pts 63

2009 — Edmonton, Canada and Salt Lake City

River Plate (Argentina) L 0-1
MLS All-Stars W 1-1 (4-3 on penalties)

Everton league progress 2009-2010

Everton finished season in 8th place - W 16, D 13, L 9, F 60, A 49, Pts 61

Philadelphia was awarded Major League Soccer's 16th team on 28 February 2008. Led by the ownership group of Keystone Sports and Entertainment, LLC, the club operated under the name MLS Philadelphia 2010 for most of 2008 and the early portion of 2009.

After thorough historical and fan research, the club announced its name, crest and colors on May 11th, 2009 at Philadelphia's City Hall. The club’s name and crest incorporate Philadelphia’s rich colonial history and vital role in the creation of our nation – the Union. The team's name was chosen following a 'Fan Vote' held between 19 January 2009 and 6 February 2009.

Philadelphia Union's primary colors are navy blue and gold, representing the Continental Army's uniforms during the American Revolutionary War.

Peter Nowak was introduced as the first ever Team Manager of Philadelphia Union on 29 May 2009. The club's first players were then acquired on 25 November via the MLS Expansion Draft

On 25 March 2010, Philadelphia played its first ever match, a 2-0 loss to Seattle Sounders FC. On April 10th, 2010, the club's Inaugural Home Opener, Philadelphia notched the first victory in team history beating D.C. United 3-2 in front of 34,870 fans.
