Everton confirm StubHub deal

Everton have confirmed reports earlier this month that the Club have signed a deal with US-based ticket marketplace, StubHub.

The partnership — at a reported to be worth £1.7m, it is Everton's second-biggest commercial deal behind shirt sponsorship and retail — is the first for a Premier League side and will provide an official secondary channel for ticket sales.

StubHub allows supporters to sell tickets directly among themselves, setting their own price. In particular, it provides an avenue for season ticket holders to sell unused tickets rather than letting them go to waste for games that can't attend.

Dave Biggar, Commercial Director at Everton FC, said of the deal: “StubHub enters the UK market with a great track record working with major sports brands in the US. It was important for us to find a partner who takes the fan experience as seriously as we do. StubHub's focus on service, plus the support provided online, over the phone and in person at the stadium, made it the natural choice for us.”

This is an amazing deal performed by the much maligned commercial team at EFC, I mean if they can persuade someone that remarketting tickets for games which rarely sell out is worth £1.7m then they are much shrewder businessmen than many of us give them credit for!

Why sub contract it? We are a football club that sells tickets. I'll leave the rest to fill in the gaps.....

The key detail is missing (or I have only skimmed it) how long is the deal over? It is a one of payment? If so seems little business sense, especially as the cost of hiring someone to do this job would surely reap the club better dividends in the future. However that said any new money cannot be bad and will go some way in paying for a certain South African and his wages.

Given my own experience in buying tickets (or anything else) from the club, I'd suggest they sub contract the sale of tickets the first time around as well as their resale.

£1.7m for a ticket resale service at Everton? How is tickethub going to get their money back? Even if this £1.7m is for, say, 5 years, it means they have to make a profit of approx 350K each year on reselling Everton tickets. I can hardly see that happening to be honest.

I read the article again and I might have the answer to my questions. "The partnership" is "worth £1.7m", that does not say that we will receive £1.7m for sure. Most probably we will get a percentage of sales of stubhub and the £1.7m is an inflated figure used bij stubhub to convince our commercial people. I would be surprised if we would reach the 100k in a season. Of course, each penny is welcome so fine by me.

Every penny is better than none but after reading the other day that Everton does not even the top 12 in prem shirt spnsorhip deals (even Fulham and Sunderland get more!), I'm not going to cream myself with this one.

What exactly does the phrase 'the partnerhip is worth 1.7m' actually mean? Whats the split? Over how long (1 year 20 years)?...

Sunderland have recenlty signed a shirt sponsorhip deal worth GBP TWENTY MILLION POUNDS A YEAR - thats aboout one third of out total current annual income!!

Yeah Denis I read that somewhere myself makes you wonder what the hell is happening with us. Unreal money for shirt deal, I think it comes down to every dog in the street knowing we are piss broke and have incompetent clowns dealing with them that we will take any offer that's given to us.

3 year deal according to the article on the OS. Any money is better than nothing I guess!
