Everton confirm Yobo talks

, 2 August, 21comments  |  Jump to most recent
Despite various reports from Turkey and Nigeria claiming that a fee has already been agreed between Everton and Fenerbahçe over the transfer of Joseph Yobo, it appears as though talks between the two clubs continue to rumble on.

Everton confirmed today on the official site that discussions with the Turkish club are at an "advanced" stage which suggests a resolution is close but it suggests that media reports that a £2m deal had already been agreed were premature.

Yobo has made no secret of his desperation to secure a permanent transfer to the Yellow Canaries after two season-long loans in the Turkish league, but the situation has, inexplicably, dragged on well into the pre-season, leaving the Nigerian defender in limbo.

Where is he ?
Are we paying his wages ?
Is he fit / training ?
Is another loan a possibility ?

I don't want " well its the end of August now, and at least they are going to pay his wages for another 12 months " being spouted out in 4 weeks..

Is his brother in a safe place until this deal gets done ?

I'm guessing it would not be on the OS unless they were pretty confident of it going through.

I think Everton has finally met its match for the 'Utterly Useless and Painfully Slow Transfer' awards.

Maybe we're now nominated in the 'Support' role as well as for the 'Lead'?

Everton confirm Yobo talks!

Well, what is it that he is talking about?

The last communication was that following a week training at Finch Farm he had gone to Turkey and the deal was agreed.

If we have let him return to Turkey without concluding the legals with these people then we are even more incompetent than I thought.

Goodison the home of "smoke and mirrors".

Are we working for Yobo or is he working for us?

Why even bother continuing to entertain these muppets.

Just tell him he is being offered to other clubs as they won't pay the fee for him! Simple!

Both Sunderland and Vila are in need of a centre back, pull the plug on this farce, i'm sure one of them would buy him for 2 million by the end of the week.

This is getting really silly now.

Mark Riding, the irony is the welfare of his brother puts the rest of your comments into perspective. I hope your life is ok worrying over who's paying his wages.

Sounds like the deal has finally been done now - hopefully this paves the way for a final signing.

Shane,
I don't think Mark Riding meant anything sinister by his remark. I imagine that he'd be as concerned as you if Yobo's brother was in the same position as he was in 2008.

He is, however, right to ask just what has been going on in this convoluted transfer. And at what cost to Everton.

Mark that was a little below the belt about his brother!

I am neither a BK and Moyes hater or a so-called Moyesophile.... but this situation is starting to make us look extremely incompetent!!

It is well known that dealing with certain foreign businesses can be a nightmare in any industry, but thats why you play hardball with them from the start and don't take any of their bullshit!!

Tell them to pay up of Fuck Off!!

I don't want to wear it out Ray but I doubt he'd be too concerned. Although I doubt he meant any harm either. Just a little in bad taste.

Shane/Steve, I did actually mean the remark about his brother in a 'I hope nothing totally daft happens to scupper the deal' sort of way, it wasnt meant to be offensive.

What I will say on that subject is how well Everton supported Yobo during that time, and in my opinion, the player should bear that in mind sometimes.

Mark,

Understood.

Yeah you are right, its strange how he went from a first team regular for years, to wanting absolutely nothing to do with the club, despite the support he was given in those trying circumstances.
Did anyone ever hear exactly why him and the club fell out so badly?

Fair enough on both points Mark. But with regards to the latter, who knows why he fell down the pecking order.

Steve, Shane,
I'm sure it had something to do with his playing for Nigeria whilst having stated he wasn't fit to play for Everton. I don't think it was for his actual play. All centre backs make mistakes that cost goals, it's just his were always memorable (pass to Rooney, in front of the Gwladys St, stopping to tie up his boot laces as Matt Holland spanked in for Charlton).

Will this be extra money for possibly another signing? Or will this go towards the Pienaar transfer??
