Everton edge closer to Mirallas transfer

Belgian arrives on Merseyside for contract talks
Kevin Mirallas is a step closer to completing his proposed move to Everton after arriving on Merseyside for talks today.

Sky Sports reported yesterday that the Blues have agreed a £6m fee with Olympiakos for the 24 year-old but there are apparently suggestions in the Greek media that a payment schedule needs to be hammered out before any deal can be rubber-stamped.

Assuming the two clubs come to an agreement and the 24 year-old successfully negotiates personal terms, the transfer could be completed pending a medical within the next 24 hours.

He would not be eligible to face Manchester United but, as with Nikica Jelavic back in January during the home win over Manchester City, the Club could parade the new signing at Goodison Park before the United game.

I had a fair old laugh at the line towards the bottom of the article about "Moyes having a fairly quiet transfer window"... This is Everton's GREATEST summer for years! We have signed TWO players. It normally takes until January and 3 wins in 18 before we do that!

Doesn't sound as nailed on as i'd hoped. Cmon Everton, get it sorted out please.

Looking good. People say we have a small squad, which is true but we have so many players who can do a job in multiple positions. Mirallas is another. He can play either wing, just off the striker or as the striker. Between Mirallas, Naismith, Pienaar, and Osman, any of the four could play either wing or just behind the striker. If three of those four were on the pitch at the same time switching back and forth, Fellaini switching up with Ossie, that would be a massive headache for any defense.

Thanks to such flexibility, our squad looks deeper than it has been in a long time. That said, football is played on grass not paper. If we can play to the potential that we have on paper, we're gonna be dangerous.

Genuinely optimistic about the start of this season, even if it's United first up.

I mean, I always am but this time I feel justified. COYB

Obviously I'm thrilled what seems to be the signing of a very talented player and a squad that is probably even more talented than the team of 2/3 years back.

But I'm also a touch worried. Moyes with options usually backfires.

Will he let this team loose as he should have a couple of years back?

I'm thinking (hoping) that this is rumbling on a bit like the Jelavic signing, only to be announced at half time for a shot in the old lady's arm. Course, could be another Sissoko...

I went on fiifa last night and went Belgium to see what this lad was like, he has got pace to burn a few nice little tricks up his sleeve a good right foot left not that great and not bad in the air.

I know playing Premier League football in England for real is not the same as a computer game but I think we have got ourselves a gem here if he signs, also Edin Hazard was awful or maybe it is me who is awful player on Fifa.

Tony looks around all conspiratorial .......whispers in hushed tones......."Jon, FIFA on the PC/PS3/X-Box isn't the same as real life you know!!!!" My work here is done, now I am off to tell some random 3 year old that the Easter Bunny isn't real.....even though I have strangely given it capital letters for its name...

Pat Finegan #191. That's a nice point about depth in effect coming from versatlity.

Brent #258, I was going to pick up on Pat's point but got side-tracked... Yes it is a good point, and this isn't a slight on Moyes, but a wise man and Everton fan said to me a few years ago "A team of Jagielkas and Nevilles never won anything". Versatile players are essential in being able to fill short term gaps, but it is unwise to build a squad out of them. I have no doubt if he had the resources available, he would go for more specialist players. That's if he remembers how to, it's been that long. (Again, not a criticism of him).

Matt #258, fair point. BTW, no need to say "a wise man and Everton fan" - an Everton fan is a wise man!

Brent, #266, I'm not so sure about that in this case. We were at Euro 2004 in the QF when France got knocked out by Greece, and at one point Zidane ran with the ball cross field from left to right, and I was drooling about it. At which point my mate says "Yeah, reminds me of that Tobias Linderoth".

Even the French fans around us were wetting themselves.

Apparently many managers use FIFA as a guide to scouting players. So it is a useful tool for getting a rough judgement of a player. I only say this because as soon as we are linked with a player the first thing I do is search him on FIFA. And this Mirallas looks very good. I hope it comes off.

www.gazzetta.gr have a statement from his agent saying he has signed, but it has not been announced by either of the clubs yet. Excusing the broken English :

"The manager of the Belgian striker with a simple but very comprehensive statement to gazzetta.gr said: "Kevin signed for Everton," essentially putting a dot in the saga of the last day on the next destination now former aces Olympiakos"

Not sure how trustworthy the site is, but hopefully an announcement could be imminent. Then again.....

I haven't posted all pre season as I find that I build my hopes and they are dashed badly.

At last I feel that there is something to be optimistic about, right now it feels good to be a blue. We have competition all over the park, before anyone has a pop at me I don't mean to win the league. No one is certain of their starting place now if there form drops.

Who knows we may even sign Niang as well (or am I expecting to much).

Don't know who pulled the rabbits out of the hat but at last we don't look like we are desperate. For years our pride has been dented pre season, not so this year. So well done Davey or BB you have made a grown man very happy.

Whoa! I Feel Good.... dur-dur-dur-dur-dur-dur-durr

All we need now are 2 simple statements from the club to keep the real optimism going on the eve of the season (long time since I've said optimism and meant it)

1. Baines is not for sale
2. F'off Fergie

Fabulous stuff!
Now that's the right-side and striker cover sorted there's a chance we can add some cover and competition via another signing or loanees.
Considering what's gone so far (i.e. exactly what's been promised) and our previous last minute dealings, I think we have good reason to have faith in what Moyes is saying RE: 2 more new faces before 31st August.

Personally I'd def give Johnson a go if the option is available (on loan at least).

Given that as far as we know, Moyes has not entered into new contract negotiations in this, his final year, I think he is going to go for attacking football this season. At least I hope so! Or am I asking for too much?

Jon, I've got a 14 yr old lad and he tells me that "FIFA" is not exactly the same as seeing someone in the flesh but is a pretty good guide as far as a cyber-machine can be into a players capabilities. So don't worry lad it was a good point you were making. In fact; the reality of this is we've signed a potentially world class player! Although I understand he wont be playing tomorrow, when he's shown to the crowd before the game the electric vibes around the ground will be put on supercharge. COME ON YOU TOFFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!
Phil Bellis
52 Posted 19/08/2012 at 13:24:30
Paul (302) yea, that's what I meant but I'm still on a yellow for telling a fellow poster to fuck off when he tried to defend the 3-0 giveaway at Anfield

I have avoided viewing any clips or reading reviews of Miralladonna as I thought he'd end up in a red shirt

However, I've been viewing YouTube and the lad looks a real throwback with pace, close-contol and a brain - he also appears to be totally adept and comfortable with either foot, a rarity these days

Please, Moysey, don't knock it out of him; surely we can afford to cover for one maverick, much like the 80s team did for Sheedy

Going to be nice to watch if we keep everyone, as someone pointed out yesterday with Fellaini ,Osman, Naismith and Mirralas swapping positions throughout the game it's going to be a nightmare to defend, I am worried we may Los someone though,Arsenal have a bag of cash to spend but why should anyone leave us for them anyway now.

54 Posted 19/08/2012 at 13:41:55
So Moyes has managed to re-shuffle his cards - out with the dependable Cahill and Rodwell, in with the flair of Pienaar, Naismith and Miralles.

Will Lady Luck finally start smiling at us early, and not till January?

Phil #317, I'm not sure what would be left if Moyes did knock it out of him! To be honest, Moyes hasn't signed a truly pacy winger in his time here. VdM was a disappointment, Bily was neither pacy nor a winger, and Drenthe was consistently inconsistent.
Andrew Bone
