Anyone know if this is on tv anywhere tonight?! Rather watch this than England, even with Baines and possibly Jags playing...

I dunno about TV seeing as I live in the US... But, www.firstrowsports.eu almost never lets me down from the Mac.

Hope Nicky tells him to shut his big mouth. Saying that, his mouth was closed when a SSN commentator asked him if he had a message for Everton fans

Well, call me old fashioned, but tonight I will be sitting in front of the telly supporting the country of my birth and domicile, England.

I shall be standing for the pre-match national anthem (well, not standing as such, because I'm a staunch republican, more like sitting down in a way that expressed outrage at the idea of monarchy but nevertheless expresses pride in my country), waving my St George's flag (not literally, obviously, that would be ridiculously naff), humming 'Ghostbusters' - no, sorry, The Dambusters - and eating a roast beef sandwich.

Merseyside is in England, y'know. So is Kent, which is where I live...

I would rather watch the Belgium game any day of the week. I don't give a shite about England...

Any team that has that Stevie "two-footed tackle, come on, ref — it was not me" Gerrard in it, I cannot watch.

Kent.

A friend of mine moved to Kent. After a few years there he was in a pub telling the locals that he really liked it, but before moving there he thought it was, "the arsehole of England."

Quick as a flash one of the locals said, "and you were just passing through"

Kent? How much is a pint of cider in Kent, Kev?

It looks like only Jelavic is playing. No Fellaini or Mirallas in the starting line up sadly...

I heard that a bomb dropped on a house in Kent in 1944 and did four and sevenpence worth of damage.

Lescott, Baines, Jagielka at the back for England... Has Woy got an eye on Hibbo?

And... Upper bullens ticket v Newcastle £35 if anybody is interested...

Just watched the first half of England... so bloody frustrating AND how I hate the total know-it-all gobshite Townsend....

Sorry, just had to vent!

I agree with you, Peter. Townsend is a right pain. Mark Bright is another one who always makes out that if HE was playing he would have done it so much better!

A halfway decent performance but 0-1 down. We could do with a change in the wide positions - Milner and Ox-Chamber are both poor - but there's no one on the bench to come on. (Except the lad Sterling, who would be a desperate gamble.). Maybe bring on Carrick for Cleverley and push Gerrard or Lampard up behind Defoe?

COYW!

Townsend. A Degree in Stating The Bleeding Obvious. How do these gobshites get these jobs? I mean, I can see why Gabby Logan gets to present a programme, she's dead fit, but this prick?

England are losing so I'm really enjoying this. Not so much the all out joy and jumping up and down of the Croatia match five years back, but still satisfying.

Milner's chasing shadows... think I'd give Sturridge a blast in his place. They say he has been unwell... he can't be as sick as Milner looks!

Apparently Coleman played well for Ireland. Admittedly against Oman in a friendly.

1-1. Decent game, I thought. We've played worse and lost.

If Hibbo had been playing - a big "if" I know - we'd have had the Everton back four from a few years ago.

Coleman playing well against Oman is a bit like Velios scoring for the Ressies. It doesn't really count, does it.

Decent game? Sorry but knocking the ball about the back 4 and both teams putting 10 men behind the ball when not in possesion isn't for me. International football is beyond boring.

Bainesy looked to get into good positions throughout, but his team-mates didn't seem to notice this most of the time - no real chemistry with O-C. One excellent chance as he skipped into the box; he should have gone for goal instead of looking to find someone more central. Pointlessly subbed, imo. Commentators wittering on about how good the right flank play was.

Jags saw plenty of ball as Ukraine dropped everyone back. At least one heart in mouth episode, but expecting a lot for him to play penetrating balls out of defence all night.

I'd just like to add that I couldn't give a fuck about England anyway, if there had been anything decent on tele I wouldn't have bothered watching.
Kev Johnson
23 Posted 11/09/2012 at 22:12:24
Obviously, Hodgson has watched Jags playing for us and told him not to lump it forward hopefully, which he didn't. Glen Johnson played well, I thought, and Wellbeck did OKwhen he came on - er, apart from missing a sitter! Oxlade Chamberlain did absolutely nothing all night.

Si its easy to see why everything goes down the right. For some reason when playing for England,no one plays how they do in the Premiership. Instead of making runs off the ball into space every player runs towards the ball and receives the pass while facing his own goal. The whole midfield and forwards are right footed so when they turn with the ball its always towards the right were they constantly off load it to Johnson or Milner while the left flank is ignored.
Paul David
26 Posted 11/09/2012 at 22:20:32
Kev I was just about to say the same. Jags is being told or at least not being told not to twat the ball up at Everton because he never hoofs it for England.
Si Cooper
27 Posted 11/09/2012 at 22:20:18
No one to lump the ball forward to, Kev.

Don't want to see it all game but helps if you can mix the play up a bit. Possession is important but there was a lot of simple passing that didn't actually lead anywhere

Kev Johnson
28 Posted 11/09/2012 at 22:23:59
Paul - that's because international football is more about possession, isn't it. You don't like that, which is fair enough (and I find it a bit dull sometimes myself), but the long ball just doesn't really work at this level.

I think Baines would have been more effective if he'd had Milner on his side. Oxlade is good running with the ball but his positioning and teamwork is poor. Milner is a bit dull, granted, but he knows where to go and how to make space for other people.

Paul David

Kev I like to see football played at a high tempo, its not about long balls but theres nothing wrong with them every now and then.

Because Chris the team are full of assholes like Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, Terry, Rooney, and a hundred other reasons I don't want to see them win. Shame they didn't lose but they'll have one less ass next time they play.

Actually, I think we're probably in agreement Paul. I thought tonight was a decent game because the sides were fairly even and the result was up for grabs until the end. (Plus, "my" team didn't lose.) But I'm not a fan of endless pointless passing myself. Alone amongst everyone I know, I find Spain deathly boring to watch! And bloody Barcelona would be even worse if it wasn't for Messi brightening things up with his mazy dribbles. I like dynamic football, with a blend of long and short, slow and fast, physical power and finesse. A bit like the mighty Everton on a good day, in fact! Ha-ha! If only..

Nick, why do you suggest that the players you mention are "assholes?"

Do you know these men personally?

Chris Leyland
33 Posted 12/09/2012 at 00:20:40
Fair enough Nick but you need to add two more "assholes" to the list now In Baines and Jagielka
Chris Leyland
34 Posted 12/09/2012 at 00:21:44
Kev - I agree with you about Spain and Barca. I watch a lot of Spanish football on Sky and I find Real Madrid much more entertaining than Barca because they mix it up a lot more. Sometimes direct, sometimes lots of passes.
Mike Powell
35 Posted 12/09/2012 at 01:15:41
I agree, Nick, no interest in that shower of tossers... and as for Baines and Jags, I would not care if they never played for again for England; they are only stand-ins anyway.

What is the point in playing Baines if you're not going to give him the chance to work with a left midfielder? Ox is a good player, but he wants to be in the same places as Baines.

One up front when you're chasing a game too. Jesus!
