Barkley's loan is now week-to-week

It is being reported that Everton have agreed to extend the Hillsborough loan stay of midfielder Ross Barkley, Dave Jones has confirmed.

David Moyes was at in attendance at the Owls' game with Leeds United recently where the 18-year-old produced arguably his best performance since joining Sheffield Wednesday last month.

Barkley will remain a week-to-week loan arrangement, which is permissible because it is classed as a youth loan rather than an ordinary loan, where a maximum length of stay has to be stipulated.

Everton can recall him at short notice if necessary and will continue to review his situation.

Barkley is expected to stay in the starting XI team the midweek match at Blackburn as the Owls bid to build on the form they showed against Leeds and notch their first win in 10 games.

After watching yesterdays game I can see clearly why Barkley is on loan on a week by week basis. In 2 weeks Everton have dropped 4 points against teams they would have beaten at the beginning of the season.

And what difference would Barkley have made?

Leave the lad where he is and let him develop.

Yeah but don't forget, Barkley makes some mistakes so let's wait until he gets a bit older and has more experience like Phil Nev..er..I mean Osm...erm..no...Colem...OH WELL YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!

Can't help but think he couldn't do much worse than Neville this year.

Yeah Moyes you idiot!

Put this 18 year old attacking midfielder in the holding role for the derby!

Knowing Moyes he'll probably bottle it and play some clown with 15+ years premier league experience.

Moyes out!

If his performances stood up to the hype, we should be reading "remember the name" headlines about him shouldn't we?

We haven't so far, so maybe it's right that he stays where he is for now.

Phil Sammon: I'm not sure how serious your comment is, but there's no point putting a lad straight into a derby who has not played or trained with the team in a while. But the holding role is definitely an important one, and personally I'd like to see Hitzlsperger in there against the RS, Gueye & Seamus on the flanks & Vellios off the bench once Vic or Jela get tired.

Neville is a gonner, just like Timmy Cahill last season, defence is still shaky. Pity the derby didn't come 3 weeks ago. Still I'd like to see fringe players get a chance – but not in a vital holding role in a derby.

Darron, where are you?

Kevin, you want Hitzlsperger?? Moyes has made it clear he's not even close to game fitness yet, and I'm willing to take his word for it. But you're right, that's not as silly as the idea of Barkley in that position. A position he's never played. In the Derby. At 18.

If Neville isn't in that spot, Heitinga is the only conceivable choice.

As to the attack, I'd like to see Naismith given his chance behind Jeli, with Kevin moved outside.

Kevin...

"I'd like to see Hitzlsperger in there against the RS, Gueye & Seamus on the flanks & Vellios off the bench once Vic or Jela get tired........." — Are you pissed??? Gueye is shit. Seamus is shitter... and Victor is shittest!!! And you want all 3 to start in the derby???
God help us!!!

Well Hitzlsperger played again for the U-21s last night so I don't think he's far off, Hibbert also played which is good news.

And watching the highlights Fellaini was at Finch Farm watching the game. Maybe that's good news also?

Has everyone gone insane?

Phil Sammon, you made me laugh out loud. Jesus! Kevin O'Regan, how clearly does someone have to signpost a joke?

He is 18, a very good young player, but someone who is also making a lot of mistakes. He currently constantly gives the ball away. That can not happen in the Premier League. The quality is so high we will lose matches.

So let the boy play in the Championship, refine his game, get his fitness. When he is ready, bring him on as a sub. Until then I don't want him near the team.

Oh and anybody who starts wanting to put Gueye in the team, clearly has not watched him recently.

I've got to agree with Sean 808, an attacking trio of Anichebe, Gueye and Coleman is not going to win at Derby. It's upper Championship standard at best.

Pienaar is a massive blow for the Derby, I don't know what we can do. All options are lacking. Let's pray Gibson and Felli are back. I'd then go Jelavic, Osman on the left (I know, I know), Mirallas on the right, Felli infront of Gibson and Neville.

Back to Barkley. Get him games at Wednesday for the moment. If reports are to be believed then we're going to lose Felli in January and he might get an opportunity as our advanced midfielder. I am praying we don't lose the big man personally.

Nice try Phil, but I sometimes think we need a special humerous comment font on TW.

Re the Derby, I'm expecting to see Neville & Heitinga paired together with Osman in front of them &, if Hibbert's back then Coleman & Mirallas wide. No, seriously!

Barkley might be be back & proving a useful addition to the squad in the second half of the season - then we may well be glad of the playing time he's put in at Wednesday.

I see Hibbert came through the U-21s match. I suspect he will start on Sunday. I would imagine Coleman will go to right mid and Mirallas on the left in place of Pienaar.

I'm also very concerned about the central midfielder duo. If this was 12 months ago and I was saying to myself I'd really love that Darron Gibson kid at Man Utd, I surely would have thought I was in some looney bin.

Seems everybody has forgotten about Oveido, he can step in for Pienaar and do a lot better job on the left then Osman can.

We need Gibson back for the derby, Fellaini would be nice to have back too, but I think he is still some way off. Gibson should be ready by now, he has been out longer then he should have been.

Pienaar is key when he is on form, but his last two games has not been up to standard I think. Gueye is not even an option, he is League one quality.

Anichebe has been poor recent games, but Vellios has been scoring for the U-21 side and should be in the team instead of Anichebe. By the way, I would rather play Kennedy then Gueye on the left, if it came to that. Jelavic should be paired up with Naismith, as Naismith looked fresh when coming on against QPR.

I think we should play with a 4-3-3 against Liverpool, as we need to dominate them to get anything from the game. Neville and Osman in the middle is going to destroy our hope of 3 points if they play again.

Moyes has an awful record against the shite and even if they are a weak team Moyes will respect them way too much just because of their history, Moyes is good to give praise to them, and build our hopes down.

To be honest, I can not see us winning that game with the way we have played for the last two games. We will get another draw if we are lucky, and Moyes will again be pleased with that, and say he wants CL while we are slowly but surely slipping down the table and before you know it we are in 9th-10th. The teams behind us are very close on points so if we do not win then we could go as far down as 8th-9th.

Gibson is key for us if we are to get back to winning ways, so I am crossing my fingers that he will be ready for Sunday.

I thought Barkley's quite mediocre performances for Wednesday would make people realise the lunacy off suggesting he should be playing for us in the middle of the park. I guess not.

Without better options it will be Neville and Osman again with I hope Mirallas and Oviedo (who must be better option than Gueye) on the wings and Naismith behind Jelavic – or at a push Jelavic behind Anichebe.

The danger of Oviedo on the left is that he will go outside and leave Baines no room. If have Naismith left and Miralles right.

Just praying for a central 3 of Gibson, Osman and Fellaini.

Vellios and McAleny.(simultaneously) when Jelavic and Naismith (also paired) tire.
