Ross Barkley is enjoying Owl-time

Ross Barkley, Sheffield Wednesday's Player of the Month for October, has credited Owls manager, former Everton defender Dave Jones, for the progress he has made on loan in the Championship, but pledges his future to the Blues.

“I have followed the career of Dave Jones for a long time, to when he was at Cardiff.

“He's a Scouser from the same area as me so I have always taken an interest in his career. I was made up when I found out he was interested in bringing me to Wednesday.

“I have really enjoyed my time here so far. I feel as if I have made a lot of progress and that is the most important thing.

“The manager and the coaching staff talk to me all the time and that's a great help. I am playing regular football at a good level in the Championship so I am really pleased with how things are going.

“We have just come out of a bad run of results with two wins but I was always confident we would start winning games again.

“There are some really good players here and I'm enjoying playing with them. I wouldn't like to pick out any individuals because everything we do is a team effort.

“I'm taking things one step at a time and we will see what happens from here. I see my future in the long term with Everton but, right now, I am enjoying my football and the experience I am getting with Sheffield Wednesday.”

Sounds like he ought to remain playing for the Owls for the rest of the season. It'd be nice to bring him back, but this is a long term play and a chance for us to have real gem in a couple seasons time.

Sounds like he's learning his football speak. Bigging up the club he's at but still langing to return. There must be teams of people coaching media skills. It's so tiresome we never hear their own thoughts.

It must be hard going from a club like Everton to a load of crap like Wednesday but, if Barkley is as good as his potential indicated before his injury, then he should stand out at Hillsboro.

I hope he does make the necessary strides and then we can look forward to his return to Goodison whenever that is.

Games are won and lost in midfield and the team that has an abundance of class in that area will win things.

I like the fact that he isn't whinging! Good on him, playing well and scoring a couple. Will do his confidence good.

He made some right owlers in his first few games but they seem to like young Ross. Meanwhile, over at the Shitehouse, they are playing their kids.

He can play a whole season in the championship but it's not going to give him the Premier League experience he needs. So, even if he does make it to the bench next year, it will be back to square one.

Media coaching is important, it's makes all it's students sound like bland automatons but then so do the pundits asking the same predictable questions.

"How important was your win here?"
"What did you make of the Referees decision?"
"What did the manager say to you at half time?"
"Error, abort? retry? fail?"

People who shoot from the hip and speak their mind often come down with a bad case of foot-in-mouth syndrome and their answers will be spun by media to generate controversy and the next thing you know the player is "want-away" or "unsettled".

We'll just have to wait for Barkley's autobiography recounting the 6 league titles he won at Everton, which of his CL medals is his favorite, what did he eat after Suarez's funeral. etc.

It's great to see Ross is showing what he is capable of. The Championship is a great League for young players to get experience in. It's very competitive and the standard of football is very good. Ross will learn a great deal in his time with the Owls and come back a much better player! I wonder if Vellios might benefit from some first team playing time in the Championship? It worked for Coleman at Blackpool.

Anto, I agree. I'd like Ross to be on our bench. It seems to me that our squad is not big enough to have good prospects producing the goods for someone else.

Lets see how Gibson does before he comes rushing back. Surely that is why he's on a month-to-month loan and not a 3 or full season. It'd be nice to have the luxury and keep him there all season but unless injuries get better we may be forced to play him.

And by the way, just because liverpool are playing young players doesn't mean they're going to make it. It could end up ruining them just the same.

Liverpool are dreadful as well and a lot of their younger players are forced into the team

I don't think it's even a "month-to-month loan", I think it's instant recall, if the Moyesiah wants it.

But I agree, leave him where he is for the time being.

I've been looking at Wednesday's equivalent of ToffeeWeb and the tide has well and truly turned there. It's gone from "Why should we nurture another team's talent?" to "Can't we try to keep this lad, he's going to be one of the greats?"
