Tim Cahill keen on Everton loan

Tim Cahill is is keen on making a return to Everton on loan in January when New York Red Bulls' MLS season finishes.

“I've been watching a lot of the games in the Premier League and I know I've got a lot more to offer, and the best thing is I get to enjoy the MLS but also the chance of joining back up in the best league in the world,” Cahill said in a Sky Sports News interview.

“There's no shadow of a doubt that I'm definitely eager to come back on loan.

“One of the biggest thing I miss is the derby, two great teams in one city and I feel that when I watch it it gives me goosebumps.

“If Everton's an option, the hopefully something can be done and if not then I'm definitely eager to play football anywhere.

“I don't think you'd find as many loyal people as myself in football in what I've done in my career. It's always simple that it would be nice, but it's not down to me.

“I'm so happy for Everton, and no more for the chairman for what he's done and they're getting the rewards now but it's going to be a difficult Christmas period now, which is always hard for any club and obviously [an Everton loan] is something that would be great and if it isn't I just want to play football.”

Poor guy, sounds like he really misses us.

A great player in his day, but a little limited now. I think any loan money will be spent on a cm, and another wide player (Donovan?). I can't see this happening unless we get a few injuries, and desperately need someone.

Would be a backward step to being Cahill back. Let's just keep the good memories we have of him.

Thanks, but no thanks Tim.

Yes but do not forget he was sent off in the last game of last season.
He got a 3 match ban which will have to be served prior to playing again.
So if he does come back in January, he wont be able to play for a bit.

A right back would be top of my list

I'd hate to see him play for another premier league club in January, but hopefully by then gibson and mirallas will be back in full swing so I can't see what it would offer us.

We've already got Hitzlsperger on a short term. If I had a choice I'd rather have donovan than cahill right now.

Right back and cover in midfield and up fron are surely the number 1 priorities and if not Jack Butland.

I would like us to try and nick Debuchy in front of Newcastle but I doubt if the funds will allow and then get Odidje-Ofoe and Vossen in as loanees.

I cannot really see the need for Cahill back as we have enough players to play his role in Fellaini, Mirallas and Naismith. I would definitely go back in for Vadis and we need a proper striker if we have any funds to do this. We need Hibbert back as soon as possible because Coleman is looking a bit out of his depth at right back.

Don't think so, we kept him in the side for 12 months longer than we should've done imo.

Welcome back Tim. The Everton dressing room will understand the importance of winning with you there.

We could have done with his attitude and commitment in that shambles of a 2nd half against Reading.

Big pat on the back from Cahill for Kenwright for "all he's done"..

No thanks.

As long as we could afford, I would take him back for cover if our mdfield problems continue.
It would also be great to say goodbye properly with a huge ovation for what he has done for us.
Agree with the calls for Debuchy and Vossen and Odjidja but again, depending on the cash available.

Perhaps we could get him back in a coaching capacity instead. Might put a bit of grit into our boys, and get them to harden up!

I agree Timmie is past history now. Had he been playing half decent before he went then perhaps we could use him in January off the bench only but of course had he been playing well he may never have been let go.

If Hitzlsperger shows up well, then, with the recall of Barkley and Gibbo set to return, the midfield department may just carry us through – especially as there is no money to spend, as usual.

Claran (320) FFS whatever he thinks of BK he has to say that to get back, although I used to worry and wonder when TC was trotted out now and then to follow the party line. No-brainer. Get him back if we can three games ban or whatever.

I'm
(1) treating the BK comment as a job application;
(2) thinking about impact on morale and tat pumped fist, Vicar; and
(3) pushing to one side the last 24 months where it drove me crazy that Moyes started with him as a rule of thumb and therefore limited our options and thinking of TC as an impact sub
(4) thinking about TC in the not too distant future as a member of the coaching staff and with that in mind it's no bad thing to have him around, and
(5) he deserves the sort of send off he never had.

Would be nice to see him on the bench, but would prefer to see another striker brought in

Cahill is a striker but I'm afraid his best days are behind him. A loan spell and that fighting never-say-die attitude from the bench? Time for Barkley to get games alongside the Big Fella and Gibbo. Moyesie has to go back to basics with our defence and get that sorted. Another keeper maybe.

Actually Anto.. Cahill is a midfielder who HAD a eye for goal. He was only playing up front because because he was better at putting the ball in the net than some of our options at the time.

I know i'll probably get slated for this, Mr Posh, David Beckham is actually available on a short term basis. His distribution and passing is still pretty good. Would be good marketing for the club I reckon.

Anto #339 don't talk Bo**ocks man, he was a MFer with a knack for poaching goals ( which btw is a God given talent you can't coach into players ).

He can and will play in any position you want him to, he is a coaches wet dream.

Even now, all his so called bad points not withstanding, he is still a more mobile, skillfull option than Neville in MF...AND he gives you an option Upfront.

If the Options are Cahill, Anichebe and Vellios, who would you pick and more to the point who do you think Davy is going to pick.

The price will no doubt have to be right, but we gave a 2nd contract to that lump of porridge McFadden, for less potential return.

He will do for me.

Him and Barkley on the bench is not the worst thing in the world.

My wish list is...

1) No body out.

2) Our loan quota ( is it 3 or 4 ) ; Odjidja, Donovan, Cahill.

I had always hoped that Tim would someday return to us in the capacity of a coaching role. The guy is Everton through and through, and I’d welcome him back – I think he has got a year or two left in him as a player, especially a squad player. I’m so surprised to read some of the comments coming up. I know these sorts of loans reek of desperation, but to be honest – after watching that Reading game, there IS an air of desperation to us.

Tim is a class act, and his loyalty to us over the years has been something else – he stuck with us all the while. I wish I could have said the same for Arteta and Lescott. I know people will respond that they are not questioning his loyalty, but there is a soldering spirit to his character that our dressing room badly needs.

Everton need a soldier: Fellaini, Baines and Jags can’t do it all alone... I fear for how long we may have to wait for Jelavic to find form, and Gibson is looking to be a bit of a sick note.

A good start would be to slot Tim in straight in place of Naismith.

I do wonder if some of my fellow posters actually support Everton?

Tim to come back, not to play to dish out half-time bollockings or war crys when needed. Love to see him back coaching the youngsters one day.

Simon, nothing wrong with him coming back coaching but not playing, we let him go because his performances in the last twelve months were lacking, we could all see it and so could the club imo, letting him go to MLS was an easy out for both parties, I can't see what he would give us apart from a more experienced looking bench.

I don't think we have the financial situation to bring someone back for sentimental reasons...for the big send off, last hurrah etc etc. If there was no financial payment involved, then let him come back, sit on the bench, and maybe give us something extra in a match when we need him...but he will likely cost a couple of hundred thousand or so, and will have to miss 3 matches...we could much better use that money to pay a wage for a cm for a period, or for Donovan, who would be of far more use.

I'm afraid I'm with the majority on here... great player, great lad, great servant etc... but his best days are behind him. I don't like going down this 'bring them back' route — it never works. Thanks for the memories and all that but there's better options available. Plus we need a RB and a CB imo.

Tim Cahill brings more to a team than can be quantified by Opta Index or Pro Zone or whatever. He has genuine affection for the club, has shown loyalty and fight throughout his career and, by all accounts, a class act off the pitch.

Moyes, it seems, recognises the value that certain people bring to a dressing room and training pitch. It also sends out a message to current and new players that Everton aspires to be a family and will look after it's own.

I thought the McFadden signing was a masterstroke (Fergie like). Here was an ex-Everton player who was watching his career ebb away too early. Moyes gave him a chance to regain fitness and put himself in other manager's mind. That shows the class of our manager.

Christopher Kelly
31 Posted 20/11/2012 at 17:34:26
How many fucking sentimental signings do we need?? Or the obligatory "coach on the field" signing.. Surely we've set a record... It's a complete joke. We don't need the likes of Cahill's around when we already have douche bags like Neville.

I agree he should/can/hopefully will come back in a coaching capacity but for crying out loud we're still trying to make the Champions Lge or at least the Europa League...

Why on earth do we continue to do this at this fine club?? Can't we look towards the future? Lets find an impact player that can add something. They're out there. Find them. They're in the French League, or the Belgian League, or maybe even in the Balkans somewhere... Someone with a bit of magic, or a bit of grit, or that can poach a goal once in a while out of nothing (Tim had ONE last season). Thanks but please move on.

Dear Tim: You were my favorite player - please stay that way.

The best transfer of the summer was getting rid of Cahill and finally not having him as the first name on the team sheet. Great servant in the past but had been crap since Dec 2010 – cannot believe some people want him back as a player! Add to that the fact that he's banned for 3 games – a loan in as a player would be a complete waste of time (and money).

By all means come back in a coaching/ambassadorial role and train with the team (for no wages mind)... but play? – good god no. He can get his ovation for 5 minutes by getting some sort of presentation on the pitch just before the start of a home match.

Let's move on...

I think it shows what could have been done earlier. Dumped the deadwood (Cahill and Saha) and creating transfer fees for players who contributed little on the pitch (Bily and Rodwell), avoiding gambles (Drenthe/Stracq).

Rodwell and Cahill were linked away earlier, perhaps Moyes tried the revolution earlier but no one would bite?

Karl Meighan
38 Posted 21/11/2012 at 10:51:32
Cahill would let nobody down, he was never a great creative midfielder who sprayed passes around and danced around the opposition but he gave the team everything, never hid, and was always likely to pop up with a goal.

Let's not forget it was not only Cahill who struggled before Christmas last season – the whole team was appalling and it was the worst side Moyes had sent out in all his years imo.

It was easy laying the blame at a player who was playing out of position in a crisis, and in most cases he played up top on his own – something that £50M strikers also find difficult to do which imo shows the size of the task he faced.

Denis Richardson
39 Posted 21/11/2012 at 18:46:01
Kari – I quote 'was always likely to pop up with a goal' – not since December 2010 he wasn't. He was playing shite long before Xmas 2011. I believe he scored 1 goal in about 18 months.

The guy was not blessed with great footballing qualities but gave 120% effort each time and scored regular goals, that's what he brought to the team in his pomp. Once the goals ran out, he was just another piece of deadwood chasing shadows on the pitch. Effort with no product is not good enough at this level.

I am grateful to him for the early years and also that he left instead of running down his £50k/week contract. I have no gripes against him as, if your name is on the teamsheet, all you can do is try your best. It was Moyes's bad judgement to stick with Cahill and Saha for so long last season – 1 goal in 16 starts was it?

Anyway, thankfully water under the bridge now.

I loved Cahill but that was in the past.

Time for Barkley and Vellios to come into the team.
