Blues' gesture on another important day for Hillsborough justice campaign

, 19 December, 11comments  |  Jump to most recent
Everton reaffirmed their support of Liverpool FC and the victims of the Hillsborough disaster by projecting an image of solidarity to support the Justice Collective onto the side of Anfield this evening.

The families of the fans who died that day took another big step on road to justice when the High Court quashed the findings of the original inquest into the disaster and called for a fresh inquest to be undertaken.

To coincide with the ruling and to support the efforts to get the Justice Collective's version of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother to Number 1 in the UK singles charts for Christmas, Everton used the opportunity of their latest "12 Days of Christmas" project to display an image of the two mascots from this season's Goodison tribute onto the side of Liverpool's home ground.

Hopefully the charity single gets to number one for Christmas. Its will be a bonus stopping the x factor getting there again as well.

Well done to Everton here. We tend to slag the PR dept off quite a bit but I think they've handled Hillsborough as well as they possibly could have. Proud to be an Evertonian.

It was a good move from the club, and done cleverly as you can bet there'd have been some fans unhappy with us playing their anthem (although they did play Z Cars at Anfield for Rhys Jones' family), so going for that song both avoided the risk of the tribute falling flat, and actually epitomised the spirit that was between the clubs for a while in the immediate aftermath.

Hillsborough was a tragedy that affected LFC, but also the city. Many families have divided loyalties, and some of my Blue school mates at the time lost family members.

Nice also to hear the bloke from The Farm (can't remember his name) give the credit to Everton, although he did put it all at the feet of Blue Bill.

Hope they achieve #1 and more importantly raise the funds needed for the legal fight.

Matt, to be fair, it was Bills idea to use He Aint Heavy at the televised match when it was used for the first time. The mother of one of the victims confirmed as much at the time.

I did write a letter a few days ago to "Mailbag" which was not used.
Everton Football Club can do some great things, such as this and the tribute at
Goodison.
On the other hand we have the lies, the AGM issue, and recent treatment of Richard Knights.
Just can't make them out.

Never forget, it could have been any team's supporters that could have been killed that day. If there is any meaning in the term "We are all in this together" it certainly applies to this case.

Good on you EFC - this isn't good PR, this is doing the right thing.

Did the Sun report it?

I thought at the time that it was theatre impresario showing he knows his business. The same was surely true of the minutes' applause for George Best as Everton were the first Prem team to host a game after his death. It has become the norm since.

And it was a great choice of song. I was in a major retailer dvd shop this savvy, in London, and there was the disc next to the till. If that's the same up and down the country, it'll likely make No 1. It certainly should 'n all.

If Bill did the Goodison tribute he has to be congratulated, absolute genius work.

Unfortunately it does confirm he's not as batty as he makes out a suspicion I've had since reading his obfuscation during the BU meeting.
