Luke Garbutt has been added back in to the England Under-20 squad for their mini-World Cup in Turkey, replacing Sam Byram of Leeds Utd, and brings the number of Everton players in the final squad to five.

Garbutt joins Ross Barkley, John Lundstram, John Stones and Chris Long for the tournament, which starts later this month.

Great stuff. He looks like he could be a good player in the future from the U21 matches I've seen. Got a very nice delivery on him and great physique.

Sam Byram would have been a good buy for us as well actually. He's going to be a cracking player. Hopefully Stones will get loaned out next season and come of age just as Distin hangs up his boots.

Is that a comment on your own post, Phil? Or are there two Phil Sammons?

Here's hoping the 5 Blues can help the under 20's to a more rewarding tournament , than the Red contingent, did with the U21's in Isreal. COYB.

Our new manager will get them into the squad and trust them over the next season or two.
If the previous manager was still here they would not get the chance.

Is this tournament going to be screened live?

I think, hope, that these lads will all get more opportunities with Martinez. They deserve a chance to show their worth.

Hasn't played a first team game all season yet he gets a call up. To some extent you can understand all the shouting and screaming this week about the England u21's disastrous tournament. It's hard to say if it's the lack of talent or the lack of opportunity or both.

Seamus Coleman is a recent example or things here in Ireland. A lot of players between the ages of seventeen and twenty one are getting regular competitive first team football in what is basically a two division semi-professional league. They then get snapped up by English clubs with a couple of seasons worth of first team football under their belts .

Some of the top teams here with money can afford to pay players and will give them say a forty week contract to run the length of the season. It means that the younger players get to train on a full time basis as well as play.

You can argue that these players may not get the same academy training as the ones in England but surely their first team experience puts them in a better position in some ways.

It's not difficult to see why the U-21's got shafted in the Euro's.

Too much money at an early age, too many tattoos, too much hair product when they are supposed to playing footy - not going out to a club, and they all think they are superstars already - not enough hunger to perform.

They are more concerned about their image, Beckham (the most overrated footballer in the history of football ) is their role model.

What do they expect?

Kevin, to some degree I think Pierce got it right in his press confident. They were'nt mentally prepared or focused at all.

Not Arsed about the Under21s.

We had 7 kids in the 35 man squad then 4 in the 23 man Under20s. Now Garbutt has gone in 5....Browning was very unlucky not to get pisked.

I Really Hope that Martinez uses these players next season. It would give more dept to the squad and who knows one or two of these Players could be real Gems.

Aye Kieran, the likes of Coleman has had to fight his way form being semi-pro, so he is not as full of himself as all these kids that have been at the big club's academies for years.

Our Ross Barkley, and a few of our youngsters seem to be in the same mould as Rooney, football first, then worry about yer fecking hair!! I think our academy coaches deserve some praise, our youngsters seem to be well grounded when interveiwed.

Even some young cricketers are starting down this road now, both arms coloured in, and posing around the pitch, it does my head in to be honest.

Worry about your image when you've made it, not when you are in the Evo-Stick conference like some of the soft bastards!

Kevin

Every coach Beckham has worked with has praised his endeavour and commitment on the training pitch. Say what you like about his image and ability, but he doesn't lack effort.

I think it's quite clear that kids are given too much too soon. He seems a nice lad, but Matty Kennedy has recently bought him and his old man brand new Mercs and mentioned it on Twitter. I don't think he was bragging, but it just how much money they get without playing a game and how much tact they lack.

If I had that kind of money at 18 I dread to think what I'd have been up to.

Phil to be equally fair if Beckham couldn't play football he'd be lucky to have a job screwing the tops on tubes of toothpaste, he's thick as mince as the majority of players are.

Shaun, Rooney can worry about his image all he wants ( let's face it, he needs all the help he can get! ) because he's achieved all he wants in the game.

My point is aimed towards players, or sportsmen in general, who have very little talent, achieved fook all, yet they seem to be more worried if a hair is out of place, than how many medals they have won.

They seem to have this egotistical 'look at me' attitude, when they should be concentrating on learning how to take a fecking corner.

Phil (400).... just hope the wind is blowing towards Anfield once you've got those arms loaded....

.... but back on topic, nice to have five youngsters in the squad. At least I might have a bit more interest in watching the tournament.... but, as has been pointed, there is still a distinct lack of 1st team experience between them.

I want to be hopeful and think that in addition to some proven talent to bolster the first team squad, these youngsters might get a look in with Martinez who has already praised our academy set up.... and I don't mean throwing six of them into a team on a cold rainy night in Leeds and watching them sink without direction or coherence.... just one at a time will do nicely....

But there do seem to be some good youngsters...

COYB.... oops ... ENGERLANNNNDDDD
