Everton unveil new home kit

White socks return for 2013-14
Everton officially unveiled the new home strip for the 2013-14 season, a second offering from Nike that doubles down on the wide white bands on the sleeve and adds a prominent white collar.

The release confirms leaked images of the design that emerged two weeks ago and an Indonesian video analysing the shirt and controversial new badge.

Though the design has met with mixed reaction from Evertonians, the apparent return of white socks after two seasons will no doubt go down well with fans. A poll conducted on ToffeeWeb last year revealed that 70% of the 3,300 respondents preferred white socks to blue.

What the fuck is wrong with our manufacturing.design department? Shitty designs for two seasons now.

Why is it that we only reveal our new kit at the end of June when most of the other teams have their new kit on sale for weeks? Even the newly promoted teams have had their new kits on sale since the start of June.

The kit complements the badge perfectly...

5 Posted 27/06/2013 at 13:37:38
I actually like it, badge is rubbish though.

There are a lot of other teams who have not revealed their kits yet but I do think they miss a marketing opportunity by leaving it so late.

6 Posted 27/06/2013 at 13:41:17
Gerard Cole, we used to release them early and then wear it on the last home game of the season, orn 95 at the cup final.

Maybe the manufacturers can't meet that sort of timeline anymore as so many new kits are produced each year

Think the original looks ok. The rip off shown on the web recently may have been accurate, but definitely not an original. Badge looks wrong.

I really like it, it reminds me of my favourite kit from 95? The kanchelskis/Joe Royle/FA cup kit.

The hoops are a mystery, imagine the wages the nike designer is on, fucking money for old rope, would have looked alright with just plain sleeves, is the away kit out? maybe it has vertical stripes.....

15 Posted 27/06/2013 at 13:35:38
Yeah, but at least we've got the white socks back!

Now if we can insert clauses into the players' contracts making it compulsory to wear black boots then I think we'll be ready to roll...

Karl Masters
16 Posted 27/06/2013 at 14:06:10
I like it all, except the badge.

White socks, correct shade of blue, hoops on sleeves are ok, a bit reminiscent of the last Umbro kit in 2008/09 at first glance.

James Marshall
17 Posted 27/06/2013 at 14:19:40
I like it as well, looks much better than the recent ones.

One thing I have to say though - who the hell released those awful Photoshopped pictures of Ossie, Howard and some other bloke in the fake kits?? Another ball dropped by EFC?

Really badly put together whoever did it.

Apart from that, the kit looks nice in the video leaked online. Those photos are terrible but when you see the real thing, it's much nicer.

Mike Rourke
18 Posted 27/06/2013 at 14:07:51
I have to say, badge aside, and taken as a whole, the kit works.

Last year I thought we looked very Birminghamish. And being modelled on the dullest club in the dullest place on planet Earth is never a good thing.

But white socks, plain white shorts and some fairly simple white detailing on the royal blue shirts...nope, I can't argue with that one bit.

James Cadwaladr

I like the shirt.

White socks are back too, which I'm delighted about.

It isn't the worst we've ever had (one2one sponsor, not even royal blue with a hoop around the middle anyone?) But I wasn't going to buy anything with that badge on it anyway!

Buy the way, is there an official boycott of the merchandise with the new crest? I know there's unlikely to be many TW patrons buying it but it would be good to see the whole fanbase showing its displeasure as one...

Andrew Laird

Evertonians don't buy merchandise so it doesn't matter. Everton could have the best looking kit ever created by mankind for this season but with a steaming turd of a badge soiling the overall look, there won't be many takers.

The badge doesn't look near as bad as I thought. Still needs to be changed, but not as "throw up in the back of my mouth" as I thought.

I like the hoops on the sleeves.

I really like it, actually. Very simple, white shorts, white socks. Nice cut of the shirt, good color.

If it wasn't for the badge, it'd be the first kit I'd think about buying in the last several years.

It seems that with the kit and badge together they are trying to widen the appeal, take it outside of the usual football fan... which is not a bad thing to aim for, but if it's a turn off for the people who normally buy the kit... it's an own goal.

Didn't like last years kit and don't like this. Last year's had a shade of blue I didn't really care for. Difficult to know whether the new one is the same shade or different.

I really liked last years away kit, the black one. It was simple and classy.... couldn't we have something like that, just in blue? Simple elegance.... don't go all "bling" with go faster stripes and fat assed cartoon badges.

Keith Edwards

I quite like it, But not very imaginative. All that's been done is an extra band around the sleeve and added a collar.

The kit complements the badge right, shit and shit!!! Looks like a Leicester City kit!. White socks are good. They can never get the whole thing right can they.
White on the shirt should be kept to a bare minimum with all white shorts and socks.
Simple....Hate looking at that god damn badge.

Actually, just been on to the OS to have a look and the long sleeve version looks completely gash. The one I feel sorry for, however, is Howard. His shirt makes him look as though he's got on a pair of rural vet inspection gloves. "Don't punch the ball out stick your fist up their arse."
Clive McBride

Looks very 70's-80's US soccer style. The new goalkeeper shirt is probably the ugliest ever with the purple sleeves.......I don't even like the training wear for this season. Perfect for the new club badge. Methinks I shall save a pretty penny this year :)

Kinda looks like the mid 90s shirt but with a white collar instead of black. I'm not getting this or anything else with that badge on though. Thought they'd make a couple of changes to it on the kit so it looked a bit less cartoony but no, looks like it's a direct transfer. "It's in our DNA" may also be the cheesiest kit tagline ever too, worse than "we come not to play" and "rise up".

I think a lot of people in marketing are about to lose their jobs.

Those that don't like the new badge and or the new shirt should get tee-shirts bearing the slogan "Just Change it" an amalgamation of Nike's Just do it and our sponsors Chang. but using an X instead of the tick.

I usually get quite a lot of merchandise each season.
I said at the time of the crest launch that I would not be buying anything whatsoever with this crest on and wrote to Nike to complain - actually got a reply !
I still feel the same and will not be purchasing anything this season and see what happens next

(1) I think the new kit is ok. Marginally better than last years poor effort.
(2) The badge gets slightly better with every viewing, but then I for one haven't lost much sleep anyway. (Osman's new contract upset me much more!)
(3) It's not for grown men to be encouraging boycotts of merchandise. Most of that stuff is aimed at the youngsters and it's their choice whether or not to wear it,isn't it? The same people who moan about our financial position are urging others to spoil one of our major income streams - crazy!
Peter Truin
49 Posted 27/06/2013 at 19:45:26
Err hold on Gary

We get our money up front, that piss poor deal with kitbag doesnt get any better with sales so a boycott of anything with that abomination on it should be encouraged by Evertonians of every age who care about our heritage

Karl Masters
50 Posted 27/06/2013 at 19:44:42
Peter Truin. Merchandise sales are about making money, and lots of it, not avoiding making a loss. You silly arse!

What a lot of us are unhappy about is being tied to a deal with kitbag that only makes £3m a season and makes merchandise only available from two shops and online.

More importantly though, we have found ourselves running around in Nike gear and getting paid next to nothing for it while other CLubs, and not just big ones, are pulling in £5-10m a season from their kit suppliers.

So, no, Mr Elstone won't be receiving any apologies from me.

I like the kit and I will consider buying it even with that cack badge when the process for designing the new crest is formally announced to us all and I see that the Club are not fobbing us off as has happened far too many times before.

I have to say I don't mind the new shirt. It's kind of growing on me. Badge is still shite though.

I will probably buy it just so I don't have a gap in the collection. I have the salmon pink one-to-one away shirt and that WAS awful!

Gary Reeves
56 Posted 27/06/2013 at 20:01:20
Sorry Peter,I don't feel strongly that a re-design of the badge is a heritage matter. History shows that the badge has always evolved, and I don't see the problem in that. I'm not keen on this new version personally but we should keep some perspective.

What part of "We've already been paid our share of merchandise" don't you understand?

It doesn't matter how many shirts are sold — we've had our pay-out,

And woooooooooooooooooooosh — right over your head... the Elstone apology was tongue in cheek, ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Bet you love Blue Bill.

As for buying the kit, yeah get on Bluekipper –it's the place for you absolutely

The good - nice cut & the collar shape is simple & classy.
The bad - that badge, obviously.
The ugly - those stripes are clumsy & dated. The overall effect reeks of the 90s.

The whole thing again looks like a generic Nike design & lacks individuality as an Everton kit.

I've heard Nike have a tier system which dictates the level of input a club has in the design of it's kit & that Everton are in the 3rd tier. From this design I wouldn't be surprised if its true.

Just buy the retro shirts, folks, the new shirt reminds me of Rangers years ago... Any chance we can get Umbro back to bring back our best ever shirt – '76 onwards: plain royal blue shirt with the diamond logo down the sleeves. The away shirt was the bollocks too.

Keep it simple – and give us back a decent fucking badge as well!

The short sleeve looks sharp. Howard's black and purple number looks mean as hell (v.good in my slangs) but the stripes on the long sleever are not good. I preferred last season how they just moved the stripes to the cuffs.

The badge - although I don't like it, I'm torn as to what stand to take on purchasing gear. On one hand, I think if you are the supporter who buys it every year and can afford to do so, just buy it (see what I did there?). If you don't always buy one but were thinking about buying one before you saw the crest, buy it or don't buy it. There are other ways to protest, and the club already knows that we don't like it a a whole.

On the other hand, the Kitbag deal isn't favourable (I don't actually know how it works so if someone could enlighten me that would be great) so perhaps if there was a massive decline in merchandise this season it could encourage Kitbag to not renew contract. Maybe not.

Either way I'm happy sticking with my $5 Thailand black and gold special from last year.

Peter Cummings
75 Posted 29/06/2013 at 20:24:32
It's about time football stopped messing around with football strips and settled for a permanent design. Let's face it, few, if any, of the tweaks tend to enhance the traditional nature of the club and are simply done to mug the fans year after year, who actually pay to publicise a company logo.

When I started on my passion for everything EFC, the strip was a plain royal blue shirt with no badge, white shorts with blue stripe and 'hooped' socks with heavy leather boots. You played with a lace-up ball which would slice your head open if you caught the laces (yes, I'm that old).

Strips boots and balls have massively improved over the years, no argument... but it's time the fans and their limited finances were given the consideration that now turns footballers into multi-millionaires.

I have to admit that whilst I was initially skeptical over the badge and kit design, it has grown on me. Forgetting traditions, does the shirt look good? Yes. Does the badge fit with and suit the shirt? Yes.

I've not bought a new shirt for a good two or three season and I'm undecided whether I'll be buying it this year. I keep hoping for a quality kit and a season to remember it by. Neither has happened recently.

It would be funny if everyone just bought the socks seeing as they don't appear to have the badge on them.

Also, the badge on the shirt is way too big, it has a bit of the nineties about it when sometimes there was a badge inside a badge. I would advise the club to reduce the size by .... say, 100%.

Apart from that, it's shite, I prefer last season's.

Brian Wilkinson
