Cannonball Kid's funeral took place today

Everton bade farewell to a much-loved figure today with the funeral of Dave Hickson which took place at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral.

The cortege of the club legend, who passed away earlier this month aged 83 following a short illness, made a poignant pass by Goodison Park today on its way to the Cathedral for a service attended by Blues past and present, including Roberto Martinez and the first-team squad.

Nicknamed the Cannonball Kid for his fearless playing style, Hickson scored 111 goals for the Blues in two spells the 1940s and 1950s.

Though he played for all three Merseyside clubs as a player, his heart remained with Everton and he spent most of his retirement years in service to the club as a host on match days and on stadium tours.

Books of condolence are now open at the Everton One and Everton Two stores. The online book of condolence also remains open. More details on Dave's funeral are also available at evertonfc.com.
