Iconic old crest on the gable end will be replaced

Everton have announced that the controversial new club badge will replace the old crest on the gable end of the Main Stand, despite opposition that has Director of Communications Alan Myers providing a 'personal' committment to involve the fans in seeing through the redsign for the 2014-15 season.

Alan Myers said: "As you know, we have made a commitment to allow supporters to choose our crest for the 2014-15 season but for this coming season we have our 2013-14 crest and we will wear it with pride, and, accordingly, will support it as our crest for the duration of the season.

"It is vitally important we are consistent and what we see on TV, around the stadium and elsewhere is the same as on our shirts. Having two crests in existence and visible is not good for the Club's identity at home and abroad.

"Of course, we all know it will change in 2014-15, and we have introduced the new crest in the most cost-effective way possible.

“I am finalising the plans to allow supporters to choose the Club's next version and these will be released later this month.

"A significant amount of work has already been undertaken on this project and we will be launching a major consultation with our fans on the next version of the Everton crest shortly.

"This will give every supporter the opportunity to have their say on what they think should be included on the badge. We have made that commitment and I will personally see it through."
