Martinez concerned by the 'footballing circus' of the transfer window

Roberto Martinez has expressed more frustration at the overlap between the transfer window and the start of the Premier League season as he fielded more questions about Manchester United's continuing interest in Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini.

The Everton manager has voiced his concern at what he brands a "footballing circus" whereby he is battling constant speculation about two of his best players while trying to steer his team through the early days of the new campaign.

After United lodged an insulting double-bid for the two players two days before the season against Norwich, an ill-timed report in The Independent hours before last night's kick-off against Stevenage clearly irked Martinez who rejected the insinuation that Baines had asked Everton to reach an agreement over a move to Old Trafford for the England international.

"It is becoming a bit of a footballing circus and it is not helping anyone," the Spaniard said to reporters. "I am sure the authorities will look at it and do something about it.

"There is a lot of speculation and stories, but once you have important games to prepare for, it is a bit of a farcical position that goes against the values we are trying to present in the Premier League.

"Unfortunately it is the reality of the game - I do feel a bit worried about it. It is not getting easier and it is not getting better."

The transfer window closes on 2nd September but Martinez is expecting further contact from David Moyes over Fellaini in particular whom most report cite as the United boss' top target, although The Mirror are suggesting that a new £38m bid for the pair is imminent.
