Darron Gibson has been included in the Republic of Ireland squad for the first time since ending his self-imposed exile from international football and he says that he is keen to prove himself all over again.

The 25 year-old refused to offer himself for selection under former head coach Giovanni Trappatoni after the Italian left him on the bench for all three of Ireland's games at Euro2012 but has been recalled by interim manager Noel KIng's squad for Friday's World Cup qualifier against Germany in Cologne.

"I have got something to prove," Gibson says in The Guardian. "I thought I should have played back then [at the Euros] and hopefully I will get my chance against Germany to show what I can do. It does feel a little bit like starting all over again, not with the players... they were fine when I came back in, but with the fans."
