Chris Long scored a brace for Everton U21s but Wolves came back from 1-0 and 2-1 down to beat the Blues 3-2 in Southport to advance to the next round of the Under-21 Premier League Cup.

Long put Everton ahead with two first-half goals before the Midlanders leveled shortly after half-time and the young striker had a couple of good opportunities to complete his hat-trick but was denied by Platt in the visitors' goal.

Kristian Kostrna scored the winner with about 20 minutes left and Alan Stubbs's side couldn't find a way back into the tie.

Everton U21s: Springthorpe; Jones, Touray, Kenny, Pennington; Browning Kennedy (54' Charsley), Ledson; Hope, C Duffus, Long. Subs not Used: Griffiths, McLaughlin, Dyson, T Duffus.
