Updated Antolin Alcaraz has suffered a new blow in his injury-plagued seasonat Everton and has been ruled out of this weekend's trip to Tottenham.

Alcaraz was rushed back from a three-game absence due to muscle fatigue to play in the Merseyside derby last month and after was absent again for the win over Aston Villa last Saturday, a premature report in The Express had claimed he was sidelined for another month.

Roberto Martinez said at his pre-match press conference that the Paraguayan international will be missing from the Spurs game but did not anticipate him being out much longer than that.

Alcaraz has made just four appearances since arriving at Everton on a free transfer in the summer having required a hernia operation at the start of the season.

Meanwhile, the manager was uncertain whether Lacina Traoré would be sufficiently fit to play any part in the vital game at White Hart Lane. The on-loan Monaco striker has recovered from a hamstring strain and is therefore "fully fit from a medical point of view," according to Martinez but is lacking match sharpness.

The same will go for Gerard Deulofeu who has recovered from a severe hamstring injury of his own but has only just returned from his rehabilitation in Barcelona.
