A brace by Harry Charsley had Everton's U21s on course for victory in Southport this evening but two goals by Adam Mitchell earned Sunderland a 2-2 draw.

Alan Stubbs's side seemed to be in control at 2-0 up but the Black Cats' second string pulled one back quickly, equalised just past the hour mark and might have won it late on when Mitchell rattled the woodwork in the dying minutes.

Everton U21s: Springthorpe; McLaughlin (54' McAleny), Garbutt, Ledson, Langton; Browning, Jones, Williams; Vellios (81' Duffus), Hope, Charsley.
Subs not Used: Griffiths, Touray.
