Everton have announced that Director of Communications, Alan Myers, has left the club for personal reasons just six months after he assumed the role.

Myers returned to Everton in August after 12 years with Sky Sports and has been widely credited with escalating the vastly improved relations between supporters and the club's Communications department in recent months.

In addition to steering the consultation with fans over the redesign of the Everton crest, Myers adopted an approachable attitude towards supporter liaison, typified by his recent Everton Tea Party where fans were invited to an evening at Finch Farm with manager Roberto Martinez, Alan Stubbs and David Unsworth.

A club spokesman said: “Alan has informed the Club that he sees his future career away from the demands of Goodison Park. We respect Alan's wishes and would like to thank him for the contribution he has made since arriving at Everton. Everyone at the Club wishes him the very best for the future.”

Myers' departure from the role will come as a disappointment to many supporters who welcomed his more open demeanour which complimented the transparent spirit ushered in by Martinez since the Spaniard's own arrival last summer.

Update 28th February: Following his departure from Everton, Myers was approached by Blackburn Rovers and has been unveiled as the Lancashire club's new Director of Communications.
