“We just need to keep going”

Seamus Coleman admits that it is going to be difficult for Everton to finish in the Premier League's top four this season but says he can't let go of the dream.

The Blues' defeat at Chelsea last weekend was their third successive away defeat in the League which, combined with Liverpool eking out a 4-3 win over Swansea, has left them 11 points adrift of their Merseyside rivals. Even allowing for a victory in their game in hand against Crystal Palace, Everton know that the two clubs' respective form suggests a Champions League qualifying place is unlikely but their star right back remains optimistic.

“I'm really disappointed that we've faded off fourth a bit in the last couple of weeks," Coleman says in the Echo. “But personally I'm holding onto the dream even though I know it's difficult. We just need to keep going."

Though the top four remains the Holy Grail for Everton, Coleman is anxious to be involved in any kind of European competition next season which would make qualification for the Europa League ample consolation should they finish below fourth.

“We're still aiming to finish as high up the table as we can, and whether it's Champions League or Europa League, personally I'd like to play in Europe at some level and hopefully it can be next season," the 25-year-old continues.

“It's important we don't slip away now. It's a key time of the season now when we need to be picking up results.

“We've had a disappointing couple of weeks but I'm sure we can bounce back and show what we're capable of."

Everton face an improving West Ham side at Goodison Park this weekend in a game where Romelu Lukaku is expected to make his return from a month-long layoff with an ankle injury.
