Martinez provides assurances over finances

Roberto Martinez has moved to reassure Everton fans that the club's "healthy" financial position will be reflected in what he does with the squad over the summer.

With the January window having been relatively quiet in terms of activity, many Evertonians are expectant of some significant moves but the Spaniard insists that much will depend on whether his team achieves European qualification this season.

“Those conversations need to be put aside until we know what we are fighting for next season," says Martinez, who has already acknowledged that qualifying for Continental football will require a bigger squad next term.

"Obviously it will make a big difference if we are fighting for Europe as well as domestically, because it brings different demands.

"After [the next 10 games], it will be a matter of seeing where we are. But I can guarantee every single fan that we are in the best possible situation from a financial point of view, and we are in a very healthy position. That will be reflected in what we do with the squad."

The manager stresses, though, that the number of fronts on which the Blues could be fighting next season won't affect the kind of players he will look to bring in to add to the existing personnel.

"We have a clear idea of what we want to be," he continues. "Being involved in Europe does not affect that.

“The way we want to play at Everton is very clear. It demands a certain type of player, a certain type of mentality, and that is going to be the case, that is the focus when it comes to who we want to bring in.

“We want to strengthen, and we want to keep all the players in the squad who have been performing well and excelling.

“It is always the same situation," Martinez adds, "but I can tell the fans that they can be very positive and very relaxed about what is to come our way in terms of assembling our squad.”
