Tournament comes too soon for Costa Rican star

Bryan Oviedo's bid to be fit in time for the World Cup Finals in Brazil next month has fallen just short with the Costa Rican revealing on Twitter tonight that he won't be able to take part.

It looked as though the 23 year-old was on course to complete an almost miraculously quick recovery from the double leg-break he suffered playing for the Blues in the FA Cup at Stevenage in January.

He was back on an exercise bike three weeks to the day after having metal rods inserted in his fractured bones and shared a video of him in gym training a couple of weeks ago, boosting hopes that he could figure for his country at the World Cup.

In his interview with ToffeeWeb and other fan sites on Thursday, Roberto Martinez suggested that a final decision on Oviedo would be taken on 30th May but it appears as though the decision has been made that he won't be ready.
