George Green may need loan spell

George Green says that going out on loan is an option for him as he continues his development towards breaking into the Everton first team.

Now 18, the former Bradford prospect has established a place in the club's U21 team after making 12 appearances at that level last season while also featuring prominently for the U18s and he now has his eye on Roberto Martinez's senior squad.

His first priority will be to play regularly for the U21s and is open to a temporary spell in the lower leagues to game vital first-team football.

Green said: "I want to get involved and crack on," the Yorkshireman says. "I want to be playing regularly for the Under-21s.

"I'd maybe like to go out on loan to experience first-team football elsewhere and hopefully come back and be around the first-team, which is probably what all the lads want to do."

Green's 2013-14 season was disrupted somewhat by injury but admits he feels good now that pre-season training is underway.

"I've come back more prepared this year than I have done in the past. I'm feeling really fresh and fit,' he continues.

"I thought last season went well with the Under-18s winning the Premier League. I had an injury when I thought I was reaching my peak with how I was playing, so it was tough to come back. I lost a lot of fitness.

“I'm loving it at the moment. Training has been hard and different, but I feel as if I expected it to be harder because of previous years.

"We're coming to a stage in our career now where winning is vital and to win things you go further, especially in training."

Hope it's Brentford. Young Blues have done very well there in the past.

I hope he goes to Wigan. Uwe Rosler has them playing in a similar fashion to us. I really hope this kid makes the grade for us.

He's getting to an age where he should be kicking on, 18 isn't young in footballing terms and never has been, Colin Harvey made his debut at 18 in the San Siro and Joe Royle was 16 when he made his debut so it isn't a case the 'new' phenomena of expecting too much too soon.

I hope he stays and forges that breakthrough. He was well hyped up as a 15-year-old wonder-kid. Subsequently... one wonder goal is all I can recall.

At 18, he should at least be knocking on the door; yes, he was injured... let's hope there really is something there to move his career forward and into the first team as our next superstar!

He's 18 now, if he's not made it already, he never will. Chuck him on the scrap heap.

What a nonsense! The kid looks a class act... but you know what, he is just a kid. Slight frame and still developing, let's not expect too much too soon. Very few players are getting first team action at 18 – especially at clubs of our size.

I've watched Green a considerable amount for the U18s, U21s and was even lucky enough to see him play for Bradford as a very young kid. He has the talent, he has the desire and he's a properly nice kid. Let's not heap the pressure on, eh.

Well said, Phil, this kid has been raved over in the past and over the next two or three years he will be ready to make the grade. Not every kid of 18 is ready, not even Ross Barkley!

Green was chased by all the top clubs, he has all the ability, he's not quite got the body size of a Rooney or Barkley at this age but he will develop and mature.

Like Phil Sammon has rightly said, let's not heap pressure on him. Championship may be the best place for Green's development or League One.

Come on, Green has just hit a rough spell.

With Martinez in charge he will get to where he needs to.

Scrap heap at 18? Am I reading that right?

No Nick, you are not.
