Hope back at Gigg Lane

Hallam Hope has returned to Bury on loan until January.

The Everton U21 striker was recently recalled from a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday and now gets another opportunity at the club with whom he played briefly last season, scoring a hat-trick against Portsmouth.

Hope will go straight into the squad to face Tranmere this evening.

Hallam is 20 and has made as many loaned-out appearances scoring half a dozen times. He's got a splendid scoring record in Young England teams but should have been given at least the occasional chance to show his worth here.

Another 'nearly was', I fear!

Decent player but destined for the Championship or League One I suspect. Hope you prove me wrong, Hallam!

I had high hopes for him a couple of years ago and thought he might be something special, but I fear his boat might have sailed now with making it at Everton. Chris Long now seems the best bet regarding our young strikers, ahead of Hope and McCaleny. I think McCaleny should be leaned out to a championship team for the second half of the season. (Isn't he nearly 22 now??) He needs a run playing somewhere fast if he's ever to make it at premiership level.

After watching the Milk Cup of maybe 5 years ago I thought Hope was the best player of his generation at the club and amongst the best in the country. He had two very good feet and certainly knew where the goal was.

Now, I doubt he'll ever get a Prem appearance. Why he hasn't developed as promised we will probably never know.

It’s a sad fact that once you hit 20/21 and you’re not in the 1st team you’re unlikely to make it! Hope I’m wrong!

I fear you're right, Stephen B. I guess there aren't many Jamey Vardys around. If Leicester goes down, he'd make a good squad player imo. He's not an answer to our priorities but rather have had him than Atsu or out-of-shape McGeady. McGeady has talent but it's only good for 45 minutes.
