Everton's Under-18s take on Southampton in the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup at Goodison Park on Wednesday night and young goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt is looking forward to the clash.

Polish-born Hewelt, helped David Unsworth's Under-21s to a 2-0 win over West Ham in midweek, and has set his sights on a start in Wednesday's game under the floodlights at Goodison Park.

He told EvertonTV: “It's great to have a chance with the Under-21s and I feel like I have performed well in both games I have been involved with so far, so hopefully I have a chance of fighting for that spot.

“To get the win and the clean sheet [against West Ham Under-21s] made it a brilliant night — it doesn't get any better than that for a goalkeeper.

“I'm really looking forward to the Youth Cup game now and I know the rest of the lads are as well. It's at Goodison, which adds to the occasion and it's a great opportunity for us to show what we can do in front of the staff and the fans.

“Winning the Under-18 Premier League last year was a great experience. We're always hungry to win things. We want to be up there again this season and go further in the FA Youth Cup - there is no reason why we can't do that.”

Anyone get a good look at the youngsters?

Not asking for a projection to the 1st team. Who the hell knows with kids this young.

Just, who looks a player, whatever position.

Progress may depend on quality of players picked, Ledson and Kenny are still eligible plus a few others at U21 level.

Callum Connolly seems to keep hitting headlines with a few goals and good performances for England U17/18 and see he scored for our U21s at weekend. Just what we need eh, an attacking left back who likes to get forward at every opportunity!!
