U21s progress in International Cup

Everton Under-21s are through to the quarter finals of the Premier League International Cup thanks to a 1-0 win over Sunderland.

Sylvain Distin scored the only goal late in the first half to send the Blues through as runners up in their group.

Leon Osman and Distin were the two most senior players in a line-up that included Tyias Browning, John Lundstram, George Green and David Henen.

The Blues drew with Celtic in their first match in the tournament, lost narrowly to Villarreal 2-1 last time out and needed a win this evening to stay in the competition.

It was 0-0 with 33 minutes gone, Henen going the closest to opening the scoring but he fired inches wide, before Distin broke the deadlock with a header from a free kick six minutes before half time.

Everton U-21s: Griffiths, Browning, Galloway, Distin, Jones, Kenny, Junior, Lundstram, Osman, Green, Henen.

Subs: Hunt, Ledson, Dowell, Walsh, Langton, Connelly, Donohue.

Distin opened the scoring in the first-half and Ossie missed an opportunity to double the lead early in the 2nd half.

What a strange situation. How can Distin And Ozzie play? Talk about ringers.

Good on the younger boys. Are they playing tippy tap?

You're allowed 3 overage players.

Interesting to see Lundstram and Junior playing. Imagine they will probably leave the club this Summer having made it no closer to the first team.

Henen sounds like he's doing well and good to see Green back.
