U19s win again in Dallas Cup

Updated Everton Under-19s beat Ryutsu-Keizai 2-0 in Dallas today thanks to goals by David Henen and Jack Bainbridge and progress to the semi-finals as best runners-up.

They took the lead through Henen's 16th-minute strike but had to survive a scare just past the half-hour mark when Tachibana hit the post.

Bainbridge doubled the lead in the second half when he converted Brewster's pass after Ledson had almost scored a carbon copy of his stunner against LA Galaxy over the weekend.

Pail Tait's side were denied top spot in the group by River Plate's 7-0 win over Galaxy — the Argentine side needed to win by three goals or more to displace Everton from the top of the group — but qualified thanks to Monterey's 2-2 draw with Corinthians in the other group.

Everton U19s: Hewelt, Yates, Kenny, Thorniley, Robinson [Y:10'] (46' Birch), Ledson, Connolly [Y:60'], Donohue (85' Holland), Davies (61' Bainbridge), Dowell (67' Brewster (89' Graham)), Henen [Y:45] (67' Dyson).
Sub not Used: O'Loughlin.

That's an impressive amount of game time players like Ledson have played in the last week or so, and great results by the youngsters given that R-K beat River Plate. R-K have same points and goal difference as us, 6-4, so we're presumably ahead on match against each other. River Plate are on 4-4 prior to their LA Galaxy match, so as above they need to win 3-0 to progress.

My understanding is that the three Group winners plus best runner up to progress. If we are second on 6 points then it could be between us and SC Corinthians Paulista who have 4 points prior to their last match and Real Salt lake who have 3 points and a 5-5 GF going into their last match.

Real Salt Lake win 1-0, so 6 points but worse GF than us at 6 -5. River Plate playing now, Paulista kicking off at stupid o'clock our time so will check in morning..... unless someone updates before me.

Thanks for the info, Phil. We've played really well but the missed chances against River Plate look certain to cost us. Galaxy v River Plate is a miss-match and Corinthians will probably trot up.

River Plate 3-0 up at half time and LA Galaxy down to 10 men... not looking ace if we're relying on these chaps!

Looks like we progress as best runner up and play 6pm on Friday (Good Friday).

Are any Texas Toffees traveling to Dallas for the Friday games? I need to work around other plans (and work) but I might be interested in shooting up there Friday afternoon (from Austin) to watch both games, and then either come back late Friday, maybe, or stay up there and back on Saturday. Post interest here and I will check back tomorrow.

Julian, wish I could, just can't get a decent flight from John Lennon to meet you up in time... Enjoy though!

I've noticed that the 'Belgian Ronaldo' seems to have been in and out of the U-21 squad but, from the limited news I have seen/read he has bagged a few and looked okay. Anyone who has followed the Unders this season think he is worth keeping?

Cal, if you are talking about Henen then all I’ve heard about him are good things. The kid sounds very promising.

Cal, he has been more in than out and has done very well for the most part with a decent return on assists and goals.

Progressing in this tournament is great news and I hope we begin to see a fair few of these youngsters integrated in the next few years. The way Garbutt, Browning and Robles have been underused this season gives me doubts....

So we play the Brazilian team Coritiba FC in the the semi-final. They appear to have been the best team in the tournament so far, winning all their games comfortably. Maybe they could smuggle the odd player back with them, but on a serious note these are the kind of events and teams where we should be looking to pickup future players.

Phil (#11),

They won’t suit us, even though they probably have phenomenal potential.

Everton U19s take on Coritiba in the first semi-final, kicking off at 6pm CDT on Friday in Dallas. That's midnight BST. We'll look out for any live coverage.

It will be followed by Monterry Raydos (Mex) vs River Plate (Arg), with both games in the Toyota Stadium, where the Final will also take place, at 6 pm CDT on Sunday.

Yes Sam, while Martinez remains obsessed with Premier League experience, the youngsters have no chance. It's why Barry and Howard walk straight back in. It was why Besic was subbed instead of McCarthy even though he was having a better game. "I had to go with Premier League experience," explained Martinez later.

Good result lads - keep it going!

Nice to see the same names popping up regularly like Henen, Ledson, Dowell and Kenny. Gives hope for the future and perhaps all will break into the first team squad at some stage.

Michael, is the Toyota Stadium a different arena to where the opening games where played? Those games looked like they were played at something like Finch Farm, just a large training ground.

Toyota Stadium is where Dallas FC play. It's a pro stadium.

The Dallas cup is an invitational – lots of high-level teams. Not feasible to play all games in the main stadium.

Watching the golf. Some of these female golfers have great legs. They can also play.

I read that the Dallas Cup squad are watching the first team game v Saints with the North Texas Everton Supporters Club on Saturday – nice touch. At the Londoner pub in Addison, Texas.

So next year Everton will be participating in the Trenton Cup... right??

Damn you Texans with your decent weather, rampant sidearms, tasty barbeque and access to our Toffee youngsters during this long as shit two-week EPL layoff.

Also, just going off match summaries and stats, it certainly sounds like David Henen could be a real player. However if we end up doing it, we'd better keep hold of him. Can't wait to see more of Ledson and Kenny too.

Well done lads, for reaching the semis. Anyone know if there's a 3rd/4th place play-off if they lose the semi? It would be nice for them to still have something to play for if they don't reach the final, but I hope they do, of course. Henen and Ledson definitely have first-team potential.

Before the arrival of Martinez, we were able to watch lots of Academy action on the Official Site, sometimes whole games.

Now, I don't know who has put their foot down but these days we see virtually nothing.

It has turned into the Roberto Martinez show with everyone reading from his script.

If you can access the Time Warner Sports Channel, the game is being shown live at 7pm EST which is midnight UK time. Try twschannel.com.

If you cannot access the channel as it is a USA channel, get Hotspot Shield and then you can access it by locating yourself as being in the USA. If that makes any sense!

Good luck and best of luck to the Blues tonight and tomorrow v Southampton.
