Distin set to join Atsu at Bournemouth

Recently-released defender Sylvain Distin has reached an agreement in principle with the Premier League newcomers as he looks to take his next step after leaving Everton.

The 37-year-old was keen to remain in the Premier League after losing his place in Roberto Martinez's first team at the start of the year.

With his contract with the Blues expiring this month he is now a free agent and looks set for a new opportunity with Bournemouth who have already taken ex-Everton loanee Christian Atsu on a season-long loan and are interested in also bring Luke Garbutt to the south coast.

Wherever he ends up I for one wish him luck. He deserved better at the end of his time at Everton; I doubt very much we'd have let 5 in if he'd been playing rather than Alcaraz.

Always one to front up to the fans – win, lose or draw. Yeah made the odd mistake but saved us many a time.

Hope he has one last hurrah. Makes you wonder though where Martinez's preferred CB Alcaraz will turn up though?

Big ’thank you’, Sylvain!

At least you had the balls to tell the manager what all the others could only say behind his back.

Good luck to him. I still cannot believe that this manager thought we had a better chance of getting a result in Kiev with Alcaraz (who I can count on one hand the good games he has had in and Everton shirt) in the team ahead of a player who had played consistently well in a team finishing in the top 6 over 5 seasons in the Premier League.

I cannot wait to see what CB he has lined up for the summer.

I like Distin but think that for £40 grand a week, no wonder these players are reluctant to call it a day!

Good luck, Dusty. Give Gosling a clip round the ear when you're down there, would you. Looking forward to seeing how Borney do next season now.

Sounds like Bournemouth will be Everton Lite next season.

I wonder... would they take Barry or McGeady too?

It will be a bit like like watching Everton B with Atsu, Distin, Garbutt and Gosling at Bournemouth!

Good Luck Fella, deserved a better ending to his Everton career.

Baines hasn’t been as adventurous since he knows he hasn’t Dizzy to cover his forays forward.

Was probably still the fastest in the team when he left.

Took the flak for the start of the season when the whole back four were playing gash.

One thing’s for sure: he would have gotten his head to a couple of those balls that ended up in the net in Kiev.

Let’s face it, the man offered us more than Alcaraz, McGeady, Gibson and poor old Hibbo!!

Apart from Alcaraz, the rest are still on the payroll which is a joke. :0)

We tend to stumble through rather than trot nowadays and Distin was one of the best buys we have made for almost a generation.

Good luck to him and he is still a better centre back than others in this division.

Really sad to see you go after a great career at Everton. You deserved a better final season with us and you should be going out on a high.

I hope all goes well on the south coast and thanks for all you did for us.

Always rated the big man. I saw us down at Pompey and watched him and Sol Campbell win everything in the air. Two machines.

He made a few errors (and in defence, people remember them), but he saved our bacon on many occasions with his heading and his speed.

Good luck Sylvain, I know you will get a proper welcome when you come back to Goodison.

Remember being pissed when we signed him "at his age" on the contract we did, how wrong I was. Good bloke too it seems, had time for the fans regardless.

Hope he had a good season there, great defender and an honest straight up guy despite the shoddy way he was treated. Not many of them left in the game.

He wasn’t treated badly. He played shite and was dropped. Spat his dummy out and had a strop.

A great player. I wish him all the best. This is what Harry Redknapp had to say about the deal:

"He looks after himself, he is in unbelievable condition and is a great lad. He will be a great signing for Bournemouth. He has real pace and a presence and will be a top player for Bournemouth."

"He will bring experience and know-how, everything you need in the Premier League. He is a great athlete and very good in the air. He's got everything."
