Club confirms squad numbers for 2015-16

Everton have announced the official squad numbers for the new season, with John Stones the No.5 jersey synonymous with Goodison defensive greats.

The 21-year-old centre half swaps the No.26 jersey that he has worn over the last two seasons for the one bizarrely filled by striker Samuel Eto'o last season.

Gerard Deulofeu and Tom Cleverley will wear No.19 and No.15 respectively.

New permanent signing David Henen has been handed No.53.

Makes sense. Bring back the 1-11. These (high) numbers are silly.

Was hopeful of finally having a flashy #7! Hopefully if McGeady leaves then Deulofeu will change his number.

Remember kids... Don’t get those Del shirt printed just yet!

The numbers drive me mad these days.

Surely there's something we can complain about with these numbers! I definitely think there's too many odd numbers for my liking. COYB, let's start the season the way we should have last year!

I think first team squads should be limited to 26 players: A-Z!

I was surprised to read today that only five different Everton players have worn the No 5 shirt in the Premier League era, Dave Watson, David Weir, Joleon Lescott, Johnny Heitinga and Samuel Eto'o. Making John Stones the sixth occupant of that famous Number 5 shirt in the PL era.

I also happen to believe that football should adopt the cricket method of numbering, ie, each individual player is assigned a unique number (431, 1999 etc) and the actual shirt number should revert to the once familiar 1-11.

Rob, when you say there are too many odd numbers, do you mean we should stick to 'even' numbers only?

I agree, Patrick, with the cricket numbering suggestion, but I imagine commercially it’s more lucrative for the clubs and players’ personal ’brands’, so it’s probably here to stay.

Speaking of which the EFC commercial department have surely missed a trick in not allocating Lukaku Number 9 and Deulofeu Number 10. No surprise there.

I'm with Ross, I know it makes no difference really, but Kone still our iconic number 9! How many of those are they going to sell?

In other news, I had no idea Francisco Junior was still with us!

Duncan, sticking to even numbers only would be perfect for my OCD but I can accept 1-11 for old times sake.

I see that Chris Long, who had 41 last season, is no longer listed... while Francisco Junior drops to 55. Is Chris Long around anymore? Or did he go to Brentford?

Signing for Burnley, Michael.
