Everton Under-18s fell to a 2-1 defeat to Norwich City at USM Finch Farm in their penultimate game of the 2016-17 season.

Two goals given up in the first half meant the young Blues' spirited second-half performance and Manasse Mampala's strike just before the hour mark proved little more than a consolation.

The visitors took a deserved lead on 21 minutes with a stunning 35-yard strike that flew into the top corner of Ben Pierce's net.

On the stroke of half-time, the visitors double their lead. Fleming latched on to Bradley Catton's long ball before seeing his cross turned into his own by Con Ouzounidis.

To their credit, the Toffees rallied after the break and got themselves back into the game on 56 minutes. Ryan Harrington intercepted a pass in midfield before releasing teammate Manasse Mampala, who fired low and hard into the bottom corner of the net.

Everton went close to levelling as Mampala threatened again, but the forward could only fire over after dispossessing the Norwich centre-back.

Everton U18s: Pierce, Duke-McKenna, Moore, Ouzounidis (Simms), Harrington, Lees, Bramall, Morris, Mampala, Warren (Gordon), Adedoyin (Collins). Subs not Used: Hilton, Anderson.
