Pienaar joins South African champions

Former Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar looks likely to finish his playing career in his native South Africa after signing for Bidvest Wits.

He joins the country's reigning league champions after leaving Sunderland where he had a largely unproductive season under former Blues manager David Moyes which was disrupted by injury.

Pienaar had two spells with Everton either side of an ill-advised move to Tottenham Hotspur after he had been picked up by Moyes for the Toffees from Borussia Dortmund in 2007.

A suitable sunset to his career.

Yes he is now officially a TWit. How he gets any contact is beyond me. I have a soft spot for him but he hasn't played more than 2 games in a row for about 4 years ?

Peanuts was a very effective player first time around for the Blues so good luck to him in his ''twilight'' years.

Yes Mike, the owners too! Nice for him to end his career home. Might not get the same contract as our Wayne

First spell did very well then left us to join the mighty Spurs and he flopped.
We should not have signed him again.

Great in his first spell.

Felt he was an architect of his own downfall. Being tricky he drew many fouls and after years of taking the bumps and being nimble his body took the toll and injuries ruined his last 4 seasons.

Wish him all the best.

Pienaar is the former captain of South Africa. It will sell a lot of t-shirts in South Africa. It's good business – even if he never plays two games in a row for them – due to shirt sales as well as experience and training the youngsters.

Spot on John. He has a lot of experience that can be passed on to the youngsters. Looking forward to seeing him represent the Clever Boys!

Pienaar suffered for being a capable dribbler, he was actually the most fouled player in the Premier league during his time with us.He forged the best left wing partnership with Baines I have seen at Goodison for years and since he waned due to injury Baines has suffered because of his loss.Pienaar covered more than adequately for Arteta when he was injured long term and he always gave 100% effort for the cause. His injuries curtailed his career and we have never had anyone so effective down that flank since.Best of luck to Pienaar and I hope he is happy back in his homeland.

Good luck to him. Could never quite believe some of the tight spots he worked himself out of with a deft touch or pass to Baines.

David Currie, was he given a true chance over at Spurs I wonder? Anyway, I hope we don't have to use the second sentence of your post after this season regarding a Man Utd. cast-off.

Good luck, Pienaar, a shining light during dark times for EFC.

Spurs might have spoiled us from beating Liverpool in the semi-final, when we lost 2-1. Pienaar never played because Spurs made sure he was cup tied when he came back. We had Gueye on the wing instead – another of Moyes's cock-ups.

One of my favourite modern-era players.

When Arsenal battered us at home and the heads went down, he was the one running himself daft.

Good luck, Pienaar.
