Davies rated top young prospect in the Premier League

Everton's Tom Davies is considered among the top 10 most promising teenage prospects in Europe by the CEIS Football Observatory.

The 19-year-old comes in seventh on a list of 50 players named by the International Centre for Sports Studies, an independent study centre located in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, the only Premier League player in the top 10.

Fulham's highly-sought-after young star Ryan Sessegnon comes in 10th on a list headed by the likes of Gianluigi Donnaraumma of AC Milan, Alban Lafont of Toulouse, Kylian Mbappé, now of Paris St Germain, and Borussia Dortmund's USA international, Christian Pulisic.

Only Timothy Fosu-Mensah of Crystal Palace and Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold made the rest of the list from the Premier League.

We should ignore this completely and listen to the few detractors on here that say he’s shite!

James, don't get them started... haha.

James, I'm with you. Should send him on loan to Doncaster, then sell him as soon as possible.

The clue is in the name of the award: prospect. Potentially a very good player.

The problem starts when punters advocate him starting every week, and say we should build a side around him.

Aye lads. Bloody potential. No time for it. Sell him NOW. Bloody rubbish. Never done owt in my eyes. We always lose when he plays. If ya know Blah blah blah.

He is one of the best prospects we have in my humble opinion. Hard worker and playing with many who collectively don't have his imagination.

2 scousers in the top 10 is good for the city though not sure how the values are worked out. As long as Tom keeps on improving that will do for me.

I remember a national paper putting Michael Branch and Darren Huckerby as the most valuable young players in the Premier League... god knows how they worked that out.

Good for him to get recognition, I hope Allardyce is paying attention to this. He's just gotta stay humble and do his thing and we're good.

Yes, now that he's getting this new recognition, the ball won't stop spinning away from him every time he touches it and he won't run around like a headless chicken picking up yellow cards, because, you know, the experts and all his fanboys know best.

It's all about learning the game, and not about what the experts say. I'm probably too old to be a fanboy, but I will always get behind any Everton player, that gives 100%, and doesn't hide, especially one so young.

His attitude gives me great hope, because I love to watch a player who is not scared to make a mistake, which is really the only way to be creative in most sports.

I think it's easy to criticise for some, and it's just as easy to praise for others, but as I said, this game is all about learning, so let's hope he keeps improving, because he's got the type of attitude we need in our players, if we are to ever really move forward, and start competing once again.

Jay,

I think you're getting Rooney mixed up with Tom.

Hopefully this lad will realize his full potential soon and help get Everton out of the doldrums.

Talking of young stars, is it likely Deli Alli will get suspended for his dive against Rochdale. Not bloody likely hey!

What do they and the majority of blues fans know? Let's get on his back then we will see if he's actually any good. Nothing builds character than your own fans slamming you.

Doesn't matter if the team plays better when he's in it. Doesn't matter that he gives his all every time he plays. Doesn't matter that he always looks to play forward, often with a great pass. Doesn't matter that he is only 19. COYB, all together now, boo!

Davies is a massive talent. Wonderful to watch a kid who's brave enough charge forward, not worry too much about playing that probing pass if it doesn't come off, and not afraid to put in a tackle.

Hope this kid develops and retires a Blue.

Imagine our team with all the kids we brought in just before their "prime" / the local talent – had we kept a few...

Pickford
Seamus (Kenny too) Holgate Stones Baines
McCarthy (healthy)
Lookman Davies Barkley Pick-a-LMF
Lukaku

I can't be bothered to think too hard and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but my point is we've brought through a lot of younger kids or developed them, and we've not kept them / they've left. We'd have one exciting, dangerous team had we kept some of them, or had a manager who would play kids and let them develop.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts...

I really hope Davies stays.

I think Tom has a great chance of being a very good player, hope it is with Everton.

This kid from Fulham, Sessegnon, I've never seen him, read an awful lot about him, scores plenty of goals, how do fans on here rate him, Everton were linked one time with his brother, but I've never seen him either, I'll have to start getting out a lot more.

Very happy about this. He has a lot of things to learn for sure, which is only natural at his age, but he has an abundance of talent and energy.

I went to Goodison the other week and asked a fellow fan on the way in what the line-up was. He said no Morgan and Tom was in. I knew we'd win right then and there.

Tom changes our midfield shape. He gives it thrust and energy. If I read he ain't playing on the way to Watford come Saturday evening, I am done with Allardyce.

I'm a fan of Tom but he does have his weaknesses. Just like nearly every player who ever played the game.

The mitigating factor is his age. Easy to forget just how young he is for his position.

All that said, anyone who thinks this desktop study has more credibility than people who watch him play every week is off their rocker.

Rob (6). Where do you get the "2 Scousers in the top 10" from?

The article says that Tom Davies is the only Premier League player in the top 10.

It goes on to say that there are only two other Premier League players in the top 50 (which includes Trent Alexander-Arnold from across the park).

So the city has two players in the top 50 but only one in the top 10.

Tom has quality now. The potential thing is an add-on. I bet any Premier League team, top 4 included, would like him on their books. That says it all.

While I am at it, Ademola Lookman is the other top-class player we have got. This kid is going all the way. No wonder the ever shrewd Arsene Wenger is courting him.

I would like to see them both being given prominent roles next season.

The lad is quality. He can improve further still. He needs to improve in some areas, but most his difficulties have come from playing alongside such abysmal players.

Tom is dynamic, aggressive, can finish (when given opportunities), covers a lot of ground, can dribble. Once he adds more expansive passing to his game, he will be a complete midfielder.

We should tie him down to a new contract every year, with incremental rises to his salary.

Everton have a slew of ''promising'' young players but how many will get to the top level? What I mean is, being a consistent performer with a top team.

Everton's lads will progress only if they are given extended runs in the first team and I don't mean coming off the bench with ten minutes to play.

The manager is under pressure to play the big wage earners in every game so that makes things difficult for the likes of Tom Davies and Lookman etc.

They both should have the experience by next season to really stake their claims as regular starters but a lot depends on who the manager likes and doesn't like. The first priority is to get that back line sorted out.

James (#12) the CEIS criteria is detailed and includes the number if times he has played at this level hence EFC are playing him a lot compared to most of his peers I other clubs .

As for this word potential - he is doing it now and last year ask Pep!!

Because he did great against City last year and not this year... does that make him a has-been?

We are great at playing the youngsters; we are head and shoulders above any team in the top 92 in England. This is another data point to show what we do in this space. Well done, EFC, Sam, Kenwright, and the rest that have created this young player conveyor belt!

Tom (25) can I just change your last sentence to: "the first priority is to get rid of Allardyce."?

Top player in the making. Started off really well but then took on a bit too much responsibility and tried to do too much and cover for everyone else. With the right guidance and given time, he will become a gem.

Good luck, Tom.

Tony @23, couldn't agree with you more, we have two potentially great players on our book with these two.

I was a bit disappointed that Lookman decided, apparently against the Club's wishes, to go to Leipzig. However, it is looking that he is spending a lot of 'bench time' there, which presumably is why he wanted to leave us, and go there in the first place.

He made a dream start as you are probably aware, when he came 'off the bench' to score what was the only goal, and winner for Leipzig.

Concluding, although it is still early doors, I think basically the lad wanted to get away from Sam, and the first-team set-up, knowing his chances of first-team football were limited, or not being 'benched' at all.

Hopefully, he will return to an outgoing Manager, and a set-up that plays flowing football, and gives decent players a fair crack, with team selection not being solely based on 'older unadventurous players'.

Who's the man?
Tony Everan
36 Posted 21/02/2018 at 23:14:57
Yes Derek, Schneiderlin and Bolasie could be sold off in the summer. Davies and Lookman are the future and should be playing before them two now. I think there is a bit of transfer value protection going on.

I was surprised Lookman went to Germany, but I think the move will be beneficial. He will come back more mature and mentally tougher for the experience. I can see him having a few great season with us before the Qatari investment fund send a tanker full of cash down the Mersey Ship Canal.

A massive downside is his lack of pace. It catches him out on many occasions.
