Rodriguez: Football should not benefit the few

James Rodriguez has come out against the Super League and Lucas Digne offered his own message of protest as the fallout from Sunday's announcement continued to rock the football world.

Everton issued a strongly-worded statement that has become the rallying message for the 14 Premier League clubs excluded from the breakaway venture earlier today and Farhad Moshiri expressed his dismay on TalkSport.

Digne posted a message to Instagram backing the notion that without fans, football is nothing. Rodriguez, meanwhile, reiterated the message that has reverberated through the game; namely that fairness and genuine competition are sacrosanct.

"I do not agree at all," the Colombian said.

"The spice is taken away from soccer, the teams that formed it benefit themselves. When you are a child, you dream of playing a champions league or a world cup, not a super league.

“I do not agree at all," the Colombian said of the plans for a breakaway Super League.
