Nowhere near on the scale of you Andy, but I used to enjoy collecting programmes. Both from the matches I attended and going to a shop that used to be on the corner near the Albert Pub next to the Kop when I visited my Grandad's, if anyone remembers it?

I was an avid programme reader, to the point my mates used to rib me for reading word for word, page for page, on the train from Kirkdale to Hunts Cross on the way home.

I saw that the club are now making the matchday programme available on the member's App. Or did I just imagine that?

I remember that shop, the bloke who owned it used to save all those tricky away games for me, when I was a collector. The original shop was located in Goodison Road before he moved over the park in the late '70s early '80s.

A few years ago I bought a box of Everton programmes at a car boot sale here in Somerset. From memory I paid £10. The seller said there were several hundred in the box, going back the the 1950s. I haven’t even looked in the box since I bought it.

Andy, are there any particular ones you are looking for? Happy to go through the box at some stage.

I've got pretty much every home and away from the war onwards and lots before so unless you have some Liverpool Senior Cup, Lancs Senior Cup or Youth Cup programmes in your collection not sure I could add to what I have. Thanks anyway

Andy weir post 5. This is a shot in the dark but I’m looking for an edition of the evertonian mag that had a feature entitled where are they now. It was about me and 39 other blues season ticket holders drew out of a hat to meet Gordon Lee after his manager of the month award in 1978. Being t total he had the gallon of whiskey made into miniatures for us and signed them. It was also in all the tabloids and daily Post- echo / big pic me at the front with Lee I’d love to find it. The edition probably in the 90s version maybe

Danny, Barry: a nice memory of the programme shop on Goodison Road, but he lost my business when he went over to the dark side of the park.

I remember us reaching cup finals in ‘66 and ‘68 and one way of (possibly) getting a ticket was to queue up with a full set of the numbered coupons in each home match programme ie first game was no.1 and then so on. So in 1966 my Dad and I qualified for one ticket from our two season tickets (it depended on serial numbers being drawn) and then we glued all the coupons onto a postcard. We almost had two complete sets but were missing one number on one and two different numbers on the other.

Next thing I was sagging off school to get down to the programme shop and waited hours for him to open. I got two of the three programmes we needed. The missing number was 11 and so we carefully inked in a 1 to the first coupon, of which we had several spares. Then my Mum started queuing at 7 in the morning for tickets that would go on sale at 5 pm. I went straight from school and the plan was for me to take her place but by then she’d got to know everyone in the queue around her (she’d taken loads of butties and biscuits) and everyone said, just join in lad, no need for you to leave Mrs Mum!

There was now a golden opportunity to get TWO tickets but the eagle eyed operator on the turnstile spotted the forgery. Nevertheless we did get a ticket thanks to the Goodison Rd shop and with the other one from our season tickets my Dad and were on our way to Wembley determined that we shall not be moved!

Interesting note, Andy.

I have a good many of the Championship-winning season programmes, home and away, reflecting the games I attended. These along with a collection of newspaper cuttings for each and every game provided the basis for my article on ToffeeWeb titled Our Golden Anniversary.

Like others who have commented, I too remember the programme shop on Goodison Road. Sad to note that it defected to Anfield. I wondered why it had suddenly closed.

I am a bit too young to have attended any games this season, I was only 4, but for me the comments from the other clubs about our team says everything. I will be getting on with 1962-63 and then on to the more recent Championship winning seasons. I have already put the programme scans I have from 14-15, 27-28, 31-32 and 38-39.

Yes, the Evertonian paper but it's format was a mag when they done the article (and pic) of the 40 blues. "Where are they now?" it was called.

Andy (12), those programmes for the 1938-39 season were very large ones weren’t they, I had one of them versus Portsmouth cost 1d, got it off a mate of mine Billy McKeown don’t know what became of it.

Dave, yes the thirties home programmes are pretty big, and 32 pages, certainly bigger than todays and larger that post war.

Well done Andy.
I went to most of the matches that season home and away. I still have the programmes in the loft along with many others but nothing on the scale of your collection.
The 69-70 team was the greatest Everton team I have ever seen.

Andrew, I think the 84-85 side was better but yes the 1969-70 side was great. Strangely enough though, I thought the 68-69 side was awesome too. We never won the league that season because the away form wasn't brilliant but the home performances were a joy to watch.

If I needed to pick a team to play for my life it would be the 1984-85 team. For pure entertainment I would pick the 1969-70 team.

I agree with Ray about the home performances in 1968-69. They were a joy to watch. The 4-0 victories over West Brom, QPR and Wolves were brilliant but the one which lives longest in most supporters' memories is of course the 7-1 win over Leicester when Joe Royle notched his first hat-trick and all our players numbered 7 to 11 were on the scoresheet.

In 1969-70 the team tightened up defensively especially away from home. They secured a high proportion of one-goal wins often late in the game which ultimately ensured they won the league title. Happy days.

Likewise, John, for someone of my generation, it can only really be the 84-85 team.

Although I always like to call out the 86-87 title winners as well. Both for coming through the adversity of the injuries but also that purple patch over Christmas and New Year where they played some fantastic stuff and were unbeatable.

GED @ 8; My story was similar to yours, I needed 1 token, Notts Forest. I bunked off school Friday dinner (paid the price stoically on the Tuesday after the forged note I passed in on Monday was called to account. I got 3 on the arse from Mr Woodwood the VP... "Was it worth it?" he asked, "Yes Sir," I grinned, "Well, they'd better win then!")

I got Goodison about 12:45 and the soon to be kopite in the shop charged me 1s/6d for a 6d programme – sellers market.
When I joined the queue, it was about 4 deep and already the length of Bullens Road up to the Park End.

Somebody started a game of Nap, the players were sat on the pavement in a circle and the two kitties were building up nicely. Then the queue started to move and it was like a pile-on in American footy as players and non-players a like made a grab for the dosh.

Very impressive Andy,I have been collecting home and aways since the 65/66 season.I need about 35 to complete,these are rare pre season european games,just paid £150 for Aalborg away prog,starting to be a pretty expensive hobby now🙂

Derek and Gerard, I too was one token short, the Fulham game as I recall, but managed to get one on the eve that the tickets went on sale. There seemed to be a shortage of Fulham programmes for some reason. Happy days, getting a Wembley ticket!!!

Reading these comments, I was not one to collect programmes but I had quite a few from before I came to Canada in 1976 and from I went back home.
I checked them out and surprise I have 1 from 1970 it is a programme from Wednesday 11th march 1970 away to Tottenham. At that time with a game in hand we were 1pt behind Leeds after 34 games.

Ah 69-70. Missed the first game - on holiday, Missed the last game - school trip.
Love to know where the proggies went but my mum and dad probably just binned them.🤦‍♂️ We have a house full of memories that my wife kept when her mum and dad died but realise there is nothing from my childhood.

If anyone is interested - I have the first 7 Everton Video Magazines from 1995-96. Got to much a depressing watch after that.
