Everton seal Sandro transfer

Monday, 3 July, 2017 174comments  |  Jump to most recent

Everton have completed the signing of Sandro Ramirez in a £5.2m transfer from Málaga.

The 21-year-old striker was unveiled as Everton's fourth signing of the summer this afternoon when a clause in his contract with the Spanish club allowing to leave if a minimum fee was offered came into effect. If further reports are to be believed, he could be followed swiftly by Michael Keane who is close to moving from Burnley in a £25m deal.

Sandro travelled to Merseyside a fortnight ago when he held talks with club officials and underwent a medical, putting pen to paper on his terms on 21st June. Having agreed a five-year four-year contract with the player, Everton have had to be patient for Málaga to ratify the deal, something they apparently refused to do until mandated by his release clause.

Although it was claimed by Sky Sports' Jim White, it has not yet been confirmed that Sandro will wear the famous No.9 jersey, with those details still to be confirmed.

Everton made their interest in Sandro known in good time as the 2016-17 season was drawing to a close and looked the be favourites to sign him when news broke that they had triggered the £5m release clause in his contract with Málaga.

Atletico Madrid's arrival onto the scene last month looked to have nudged the Toffees out of the way, however, with the 21-year-old known to prefer to stay in Spain. Even when Atleti were hit with a six-month transfer embargo, there were reports that Sandro might elect to stay at La Rosaleda and move to Madrid in January after he underwent a successful medical exam there.

After a week's reflection, however, the versatile forward opted for Everton where he will provide much-needed pace and firepower regardless of whether or not Romelu Lukaku remains at the club. His participation at the U21 European Championships, where he scored in Spain's second group game from Gerard Deulofeu's assist, delayed the announcement but the Blues were eventually able to tie up the remaining loose ends and confirm his signing.

“I'm very happy, this is a big step in my career,” Sandro told evertontv. “I know I'm signing for a massive club in England. Everton is the ideal place for me, I've got the ideal manager who is going to keep giving me the confidence to improve my game.

“I cannot wait to wear the blue shirt in front of the Everton fans at Goodison Park. It's a big jump in my career coming to the Premier League and for a club like Everton which is really on the up.

"They have got big plans and want to succeed and keep developing. I'm hoping I can get to know my teammates as soon as possible, and want to adapt to the football and the way of life in the city. "

Born on the Canary Islands, Sandro attracted the attention of Barcelona when he was playing for his hometown team of Las Palmas as a 14-year-old. He rose through the ranks at the Catalonian giants' La Masia academy and made his Barcelona B debut in 2013, scoring on that first appearance before going on to notch 15 goals in 61 games at that level.

Between 2011 and 2014 he represented Spain at every level between U16 and U21 before getting his chance in Barcelona's first team in 2014. Given his youth and inexperience, his opportunities were limited in one of the best teams in the world and he signed for Málaga on a three-year deal in July 2016.

In all, he scored 16 goals in 31 matches in all competitions last season, drawing the attention of Everton Director of Football, Steve Walsh, who identified him as a key target for the 2017 transfer window.

Sandro is a high-intensity striker, able to play through the middle or start from wide areas. He's quick, skilful and always looks to drive into the penalty area and cause chaos.

David Cartlidge, FourFourTwo

Described by beINSports USA editor and Spanish football journalist for FourFourTwo Magazine, David Cartlidge as “explosive”, Sandro promises to bring a new dimension to the Blues' attack.

“Sandro can play a variety of roles,” he explained in an interview with BBC Radio Merseyside recently. “He can play out wide and cut inside. He can also lead the line as well.

“He's not a Lukaku type; he's a different type of striker. He's extremely quick, very mobile… he's a very explosive type of player and that's the kind of player Everton would be getting.

“For a 21-year-old [his record last season] was pretty good because he was in a Málaga team that wasn't in the top half of the table; they're not one of the top teams. Sandro scored goals at the wrong end of the table, basically.

“He could do with a little more composure, anticipation in the penalty area, his decision-making and hold-up play and then could see those [goal] numbers increase even more. He's still very young.

“He could come off the bench and make an impact but we're talking about a striker that is ready to go and hit the ground running in the Premier League. He's quite a physical striker, he can handle himself very well and I think he could cause a lot of trouble in the Premier League.

“I think he could play with Lukaku or he could back him up but there's a variety of options that Everton would have so it's a very good signing, particularly for the price.”

Hope I'm not tempting fate, but here goes, welcome aboard Sandro Ramirez!

Would still rather have seen him with the shirt on, to know it was actually true.

I remember not that long ago, there was a player, I think he was called Fernandez, came to Goodison, got the VIP treatment etc. flew out on the Sunday, and signed for some other side, in Spain or Portugal.

I would like to think we have moved on since then, and wouldn't be so naive, to announce the signing, if it was likely to go pear-shaped.

Brilliant capture. Pickford, Klaassen, Sandro and Keane. Possibly Sigurdsson to follow and perhaps another striker (Lukaku replacement) and we're all set.

Knowing nothing more than what I've seen on You Tube this could surely be the pound for pound signing of the summer?

If this is Walsh working his magic then kudos to him but having a high profile name managing us who is held in great esteem at Barca and in Holland must have helped with this and the Klasson deal.

But ultimately, well done Mr Moshiri – another feather in your cap?

Phew, excellent news, even if it has taken a while to come through.

Hope he has his picture taken in the new strip, the one he was given when he last flew over must have had 'Hafnia' on it.

Well he hasn't cost much but is obviously worth a hell of lot more given his current rating so let's hope he can produce the goods consistently for the Blues.

With the other newcomers and maybe one or two more plus the youngsters coming through we can be forgiven for licking our lips for the next season, all being well that we can get the tactics right and the main starting eleven gels quickly.

While all the first-team signings in so far should be in the starting eleven, we have let a lot go.

They weren't first teamers but many were fillers. And the starting 11 has got older. With the likes of Lennon, Cleverley and Kone gone, we still need to keep buying what with the Europa League coming up.

Under Moyes, I would have been stunned by this level of signings yet this squad was a cobbled together affair in Koeman's first season, probably able to get to 7th because of the likes of Jags, Coleman, Lukaku, Barkley, Gana and the bonus that was Davies.

Keane needs to come in to truly replace the void left by Stones, we've hopefully answered our goalkeeper problem for many years yet, however we do need to look at left backs and a centre-forward who knows the Premier League and will get into double figures. I suspect more chances will be spread out across the team once our contracted semi-final penalty missing Champions League wannabe has departed.

Jim Hardin
33 Posted 03/07/2017 at 02:33:31
Andrew James,

Fill the void left by Stones? Is that the huge gaps he used to leave by getting too far forward? Or the void left by a failure to defend set pieces properly? Or is it the dancing around in his own box void? Keane is about as far from Stones (thankfully) as a defender at the same position can get. I still think he has demonstrated weaknesses with pace and mobility outside the 18 but he is excellent in the box.

Good deal if we can get him but I think some overvalue and over-hype him due to his being English. I watched almost every Burnley game last season and Heaton and mostly, Mee, covered for his mistakes outside the 18 too often for comfort. Maybe Koeman can get him straightened out though.

It appears that the top brass is really fair dinkum with the plans to build a large, strong, hard working , mobile squad, from the quality so far purchased. I'm excited at the prospect of the young academy stars sparking some of the more established senior players on to heights they haven't reached before, when European football and cup football hopefully sees a mixture of the two. The quality of player coming into the club is breathtaking, what a resurgence the future promises, to keep everyone on track heading in the same direction will be the balancing act the playing management must get right. Obviously a great deal given the modest fee and excellent season Sandro had. I'd try not to expect too much though, as I think it'll take time for him to adjust from the Spanish league, off the pitch as well for a young lad coming to a new place, as it's likely Robles and Deulofeu won't be around to help him settle.

Lastly, the cynical Blue in me gets reminded of the gs, mostly unknown to the league – the season we sign last summer like this, with a slew of continental signings, Dacourt, Materazzi, Collins, and Bakayoko later on. Hopes were high and all were excellent players, but just didn't settle well and fuse together as a team. Dacourt and Materazzi I remember had terrible disciplinary records while Bakayoko, a great debut aside, remained an enigma.

Then Dunc got sold and PJ left. I'd like to think we and the Premier League has moved on from those dodgy times, but history can sometimes repeat itself.

Good post Jim Hardin.. It's good to see most Toffee Webbers excited at these signings.. This is a big season for Koeman, in as much unlike his day's at Southampton he had to build a new team after his best players were sold.
His Everton project is a test of reinforcing his squad of better players while off loading the deadwood..

7th last season was good, but I expect for a slightly higher finish this season and to beat the red shite at least once. I'm not getting excited but hope that Everton are truly on the way back to were we belong the Top team on Merseyside.

This is seemingly a great piece of work by the back room staff. Will be interesting to see if there are any strange caveats with regard to the ability to jump if no CL qualification etc. Even if so, at the price it seems a solid move. Hopefully Keane in next. Very happy so far.

Mike, I wonder where you picked your sarcasm up from? Nicely worded response to someone that maybe forgot his reading glasses.

Doesn't Mirallas also speak Spanish? I hope Joel is still around this season. Pickford will be in the spotlight a bit more at Everton... and we all know how patient the Goodison crowd can be.

Dave Abrahams @55,

You are sharing my thoughts exactly there, regarding the younger promising players, I do hope they are more involved, this coming season we have the Europa as well as the domestic Cups and of course the Premier League, to contend.

Like you say Jonjoe Kenny, Mason Holgate, to name but two, IMO good enough now to play a role if chosen. It must be disheartening for these lads, to have come this far, be knocking on the door, and they go and buy someone for that position.

I do appreciate the need for getting rid of a lot of dead wood, along with needing a bigger squad to cope with the extra games, but please let's not forget what we already have in the cupboard!

63 Posted 03/07/2017 at 10:25:06
Dave, you'll probably be disappointed then as I'd expect Mason to continue at right back until Seamus is fit instead of Kenny, which if you compare their performances in their respective international tournaments is just ridiculous. As we know, hardly Mason's fault as he is playing out of position but I guess who Koeman plays during pre-season will be telling. I'd love it to be Kenny.

But a few cameos from Dowell, Walsh and Robinson would still be progress for them personally. I'm confident Walsh could happily go away on another loan at a higher level than Yeovil and do a great job but Dowell for some reason doesn't strike me as the type to thrive in a lower league so he really needs to break into our team sooner rather than later.

Dave and Derek above, I share your concern over the prospects of 'our own' young stars. In all the excitement over the myriad of 'big' signings, it is inevitable that it means a back seat will await the likes of Davies, Holgate and Kenny.

For years we've called for 'early' signings and it's ironic that now our dreams are coming true the timing coincides with a rare crop of young 'graduates' of our own !

The odd appearance on a wet Thursday night in Usbekistan will be scant reward for seeming 'to make it' at Everton. But that's football, today, I guess !

When I see him at Finch Farm wearing an Everton shirt and holding the scarf above his head I will want to know about it. All this 'on the brink', 'within 24 hours', 'all but done' crap drives me mad. Until then it's all conjecture and doesn't interest me. The club have said absolutely nothing, don't forget.

I suppose this is what happen s though, when Sky Sports News have 24 hours a day of television to fill. Jesus wept.

Tbf Paul et al – I don't see how these signings are causing problems for Kenny and Holgate. They can both compete for a right back spot in the absence of Coleman, whilst Holgate could also be our long term cb partner to Keane. Klaassen is a clear threat but if Davies is good enough then he can still push on. We've got three cups and league football – the best teams have a lot of different players for different positions. If we rely on players coming through our academy then we will not kick on.

We need to invest in top young players, invest in our academy, and invest in seniors. We were not exactly awash with players coming through when we were a poorer team.

Jason (92), looking at Sandro the other night versus Germany, I thought his gait was very similar to Rooney's. If he is half as good as Wayne, we have done fantastic business.

As much as I loved Rooney as a player, I hope he doesn't come back, his best days are long gone IMO.

The misgivings I expressed a couple of weeks ago, regarding the motives of our new shareholder, appear to have been addressed, thankfully. The purchase of the world's third most expensive 'keeper (or whatever the stat was) was the turning point, I guess. There now appears to be little doubt about Everton Football Club's ambitions, or its ability to sign top players.

Eat those words with relish, Mr. Lukaku.

Yeah would be great if Lennon made a full recovery and comes back strong and even better than before. He always looked like a hard worker unlike some others.

If you compare the team now to what it MIGHT look like at full strength this year, then there are huge differences between only a few years ago.

Howard Pickford
Coleman Coleman
Jagielka Keane
Distin/Stones Williams
Baines Baines
Barry Gana/Davies
McCarthy Schneiderlin
Barkley Klaassen

Ken, not next year, but the year after that, although I think we can settle for the Europa Lge, next season, if we can just get through into the group stages, and give the squad some time to gel!

And for the fourth time this summer I can open a post by saying: "Well played Everton."

At today's prices, his age, his profile, his career to date, this is a total no-brainer.

I wonder if all the more paranoid posters and conspiracy theorists who contributed to the 500-600 posts across 3-4 threads about this lad and his transfer, all the wild speculation and angst they expressed, will learn from this experience?

You know nowt about what is truly going on behind the scenes during each and any transfer window, either in general or about individual transfers.

Will how this transfer played out stop posters senseless, unfounded speculation? Will it buggery!

Human nature is a funny ole business...

I feel this player is better suited to the Prem than the Spanish game, he likes to press and run with the ball, not wait all day for the ball during a tika taka game.
A perfect counter attacking player with tremendous speed, who likes to shoot, often outside the area, and whose attributes will be fully exploited when Ronald sets it up right.
Were going to really enjoy this Signor, somberos on sale at Goodison any time soon ?

What a great signing. Chuffed to bits!

I've just watched his OS interview, all pretty standard stuff but he looks like he's dead keen, has something to prove and how many times did he say the RK was a major reason for him coming to us?

This is why Moshiri broke the bank for RK, all part of the masterplan .

Has he any buy out clauses inserted into his contract?

You would imagine in today's market that he will be worth a lot more in 2 or 3 years time, should he want to go back to Spain.
I wonder would he like Giroud to partner him?
With him also able to play behind the striker or on the wing could we see him maybe as part of a front three.

Glad to see we got our hitman, sharpshooter or whatever, finally!

And, where have you gone Alexander Murphy? You disappeared after your complaint about the gun language. With all these gun puns being fired around I'd have thought you'd have plenty of ammunition for further complaint... although perhaps given your stance you'd be bringing a knife to a gunfight?

Whilst we still have a little way to go to do before we have a team capable of challenging at the very top, can I just say how refreshing it is to be going about our business in such a clean, purposeful way.
Identify target, bid for target, negotiate, sign.

Of course we're not going to get everyone we want, but to be opening the transfer window with 4 players already in the bag (albeit one a prospect for next season) plus one more waiting in the wings and plenty of discussions progressing elsewhere is genuinely satisfying.

Coupled with the stadium developments, new sponsorship deal and the performance of the youth players last season under Unsworth it really does feel like a new dawn for the club. Can't wait for the new season!

So far so good! However, Siggi is not one of us for the moment and we still lack a play maker. No centre forward can score goals unless he is given the ammunition. Lukaku actually scored 26 goals from half of the chances that were created for Kane. Lukaku scored quite a few goals without assists at all. Nothing is set in stone and I still hope that Lukaku stays. Now that would be a real show of strength.

Without Lukaku we still need a potent goal scorer. Without Siggi we are still without a play maker.I am not so worried about the centre back position as Keane will need a Jagielka or Williams alongside him until he is completely bedded in.Filling the Coleman absence is more worrysome as Holgate is not a full back IMO. Perhaps Kenny can stake his claim ?

He certainly looks pleased to be here and makes all the right noises, including an honest description of his qualities and praise for everyone involved in the deal.

I'm just curious as to where this was filmed and WHEN it was filmed and if Everton has been sat on it for some time waiting for the Malaga release clause to be activated.

Great news, get Keane over the line, a young LB to rotate with Baines/play alongside him and a striker to replace Lukaku and we've had a great window.

Sandro I see as being what Son is to Tottenham - can be the #9 if our lead striker is injured but otherwise will play around him.

In terms of the LB, I'd happily see either Robertson from Hull come in or if we can manage it Sessegnon from Fulham, who I note can play LM/LW if required to do so.

It's so good to see us signing not just recognized good players, but players who are mostly below 25! Young and hungry players, all understanding that they are part of an ever-developing unit, that's what I've been wishing for us to get for years!

Before Moshiri, I always was vocal about us giving our youth a chance to develop by playing, even if it meant mid- to low-table mediocrity for a few years. This is just as good! After all, we didn't do it the Man C way... We're splashing the cash late, and on young players!

It really is a crazy world of football transfers. £13M for Niasse, £5M for McGeady, £8M for Cleverely and we get £10M to sell back Deulofeu to a club that don't even want him. Yet here we are buying Sandro at aged 21 who has two La Liga medals, 2 Copa del Rey medals, 1 Champions League medal for £5.3M.

I realise Deulofeu is a totally different player but by the sounds of things this lad will work a lot harder, has a much better attitude, will score us loads of goals yet cost us almost half what we sold Geri for.

I was expecting us to have to insert some similar low release clause into his contract but it doesn't look it. I realise he might not be our 1st choice striker (or is he?) but it's a great bit of business and I'd say Malaga are fierce annoyed as they look at other players going for £20M+

I can't wait to see him, Bolasie and Lookman all in the one team. Would be nice if Rom would be there for one more season to see how that would work out. If Costa doesn't move then Rom might stay.

If there was one good thing to learn from the transfer of our Belgian palm tree to Man Utd, I will hope this proves we at least learned a lesson! No silly release clauses!

Phil (#152),

I bought the book "Here we go" (interviews with players from our mid-80's) quite some time ago, but only just got around to reading it. And the one thing many of those old players agreed on was that having a mainly young team that was doing not-to-good, but eventually getting some experienced players in (with Andy G and Peter R), was suddenly turning it all around!

So yes, we want all those young and hungry ones, and we need some older players with the proper winning mentality to gel them into a team that never have any doubts about where they can get to!

Without wishing to be a voice of doom, I do see a bit of a short term issue.

We are seeing a whole scale restructuring of the squad and we could end up starting the season with up to six new first team starters.

It often takes new players a while to gel, getting used to playing with each other. The early season fixtures have not been kind to us , so at a time new players are acclimatising we are playing some of hardest games.

In the long run strengthening the squad is a good thing but I do fear we may need a bit of patience in August and September.

Typical Everton - money, money, money only this time we're actually spending the stuff like there's no tomorrow.

And we're doing it early enough for the team to gel together in pre-season.

This reminds me of one season in the early 80's when it was a very different looking team to the one that finished the previous season. The start of the HK Mk I era if memory serves.

Most on ToffeeWeb have been saying for a while that Lukaku will leave this summer. If he does leave, won't the income from that be financing these buys?

On the other hand, if he doesn't leave, then the buys would seem to be a true sign of a new era where we don't need to sell to buy.

Until it's clear whether he's going or staying (and it's not clear at the moment, because Everton might have decided he's going nowhere, despite what he's said to the press), surely we've no idea how these signings are being financed?

Peter Laing
187 Posted 03/07/2017 at 21:57:24
Stan – Mr Moshiri has very deep pockets and friends with even deeper ones! In 18 months, he has cleared the debt, sorted the stadium, bought the Liver Building and began to invest heavily in Everton's Manager, back room staff and most importantly the team.

I remember towards the end of last season saying that we were approaching the end of an era. We needed a lot of signings just to replace the aging and injured. I think I finished by saying that even 5 might not be enough – and I just couldn't see us making even that many signings based on recent history.

Well we've made 5 by July 4th! All young, all highly rated. No fear of spending to get our targets. We're doing exactly what we needed to do and we're doing it quickly!

Incredible. Sandro might be seen as one of the all time pieces of transfer business.

Stan Schofield
189 Posted 03/07/2017 at 22:18:45
Peter, yes, agreed. But that doesn't make it clear that we've moved from the era of sell to buy. If Lukaku stays, that might be a sign that we have. At this point in time, we just don't know.

These signings all look good players, so I'm encouraged. But I'm not finding myself excited, not just yet.

Some folks are comparing what's happening with the John Moores era of the 60s. I hope it proves to be comparable, but the comparison seems premature at the moment.

This is not negative, it's just a kind of 'restrained positive'.

Anthony Dwyer

Lukaku will probably cover most of the incoming transfer fees, plus we will sell Ross or McCarthy. Rom wants off, there's nothing Moshiri can do about that as he only has 2 years on his deal.

That said, we still bought the players before selling anyone, which isn't like us. Plus some of the signings may make Rom or Ross have a change of heart, meaning we will have hung onto some of our stronger players.

Plus spending as though we don't need to sell shows other clubs that we won't sell on the cheap to ensure we can buy Ronnie's first choice players. It almost guarantees huge money for Lukaku, anything like £80m+ is much more than we could ever of held out for in the past. Look at the Rooney deal, peanuts put down and the rest on the never never, look at the measly £10m we received for Arteta, and the way we had Lescott taken from us without us really standing up to Man City.

Since Moshiri we have taken crazy money off city for Stones, we've stood firm on Rom, and we've spent more money on players in 2017 than any other Premier League club.

If we sell Rom as expected, we will buy at least 1 main striker to replace him, but unfortunately we don't have the pull to buy someone worth anywhere near what Rom will go for.

We've now secured Sandro who along with Calvin-Lewin are going to replace Kone, Valencia and Niasse, who were bit part players, and Henry Onyekuru who will spend the season out on loan gaining invaluable experience playing for the top side in Belgium.

We will probably have offed 5 forwards in Kone, Valencia, Lukaku, McAleny and Niasse, this will result in more attacking signings being made so the spending will most definitely continue.

Aside from all the talk of the ins & outs of the money situation – I have a good feeling about this kid, Sandro. Something about watching him in the Under-21s tells me he's going to be a nightmare for British defences.

With his movement, and pace off the mark, Klaassen, Schneiderlin & Co in behind him, we're going to be so much more productive going forward next year.

Now we have Keane and presumably Williams as our first choice centre halves, we'll be solid there, and with Gana in front mopping up, I'm already excited to see how this new look team sets up & plays.

We have some genuine quality in this team now.

Great signing. In his own words, Sandro's game is 'all about goals' and as he is roughly the same age as Lukaku was when we signed him we may be in for a treat in the next couple of years. Very different to Rom, but this lad could prove to be our next goal machine of the future. No harm in hoping.

Okay you may be right that the signings don't gel or just don't work out – statistically 50% of signings are considered "failures". You may also be right that this, if all advance spending of the Lukaku money.

But if you were imagining a complete turnaround of EFC this summer (within realistic constraints) – what has happened this summer is exactly what you would imagine:

By far the quickest mover in the transfer market.
Getting players we are linked with (meaning they are our prime targets).
Putting enormous daylight between us and those below us, brushing aside competing bidders.
Buying before we sell.

Had we sold Lukaku I think would know about it. In the old days we waited to sign players at the end of the window to save on wages over the summer. We have credible plan to build a new stadium. The fact is it's a total transformation.

Yes, it was Todd and Rioch. However, they were at the end of their careers and both were a bit of a disappointment – they looked better players when they were with Derby County (and won the title). Rioch in particular disappointed me in the flesh.

In those days we didn't have as much TV coverage so we didn't really know how good other players were. Bruce Rioch scored a lot of goals from midfield so got a lot of media coverage – but it turns out that's pretty much all he did (he had a rocket left foot).

Colin Todd was a very accomplished defender – but a bit on the small side for a centre back. But better than what we had before (although I can't remember who that would be... an end of career Mike Lyons or Billy Wright or Ken McKnaught?).

David @196: That's not me mate, I feel (for what it's worth) that these are good signings and likely to work out. All I'm saying is that it seems premature to get too excited or to compare what's happening with the 60s, or to conclude we're no longer sell to buy.

I agree that the changes are major, which is why I'm encouraged. But I'll get excited when we do stuff on the pitch.

Anthony (#190), I disagree on only getting top dollar for our players since Moshiri came in.

We did stand up to Man City on Lescott, and we got £28m off them for him. That's more than we had paid for Keane!

We also mugged them for Rodwell, forget the fee but it was well over £10m. If you talk to fans of other clubs, then they all think of Everton as being up there with Spurs for getting every penny out of player sales.

Graham @170, that's not the voice of doom, mate, but more the voice of common-sense!

They say good players can play anywhere, and those that learn the fastest go the furthest, but I have to agree with you about those early fixtures and it's the reason I'm not putting a bet on us to win the league!

Tony # 202 - have a fiver on us.

Dan # 184 - that USM logo was sort of in your face wasn't it. Like a sort of subliminal message to Stan Kroenke.

It's good this isn't it.

Whether we're still in a sell to buy era or not is immaterial. We've bought early and bought well, and in case it's been missed we've bought without selling.
There's no guarantee that any "possible" deal for Lukaku would actually come to fruition, or if there even IS a possible deal so IMHO we're not spending the Lukaku money.
Anyone who's not excited at what's happening needs to have a word with themselves because what's happening is VERY different from what's happened in our recent history, and it's different in a very positive way.
With what's happened so far I'm feeling quite confident that if Lukaku did go then the club have a plan in place to replace him.
I'm also feeling confident that the club won't let him go at the 11th hour and not have something planned or in place.
Just can't see the good work done so far being put at risk by letting a top striker go and not have replacement/s sorted.

Only time will tell if my confidence is warranted or misplaced.

Excellent post Brian. It seems to me we have planned this for a year or so and all that"project" talk was indeed true.

We also have a well respected manager, a proven scout and an owner who is no mug.

Strangely maybe the "lovey" skills Kenwright has, the welcome he gives and selling a close knit community is also coming into its own, now that he no longer leads the business side.

I sniff a strategy.

If the team and squad are strengthened and we manage to claw back most of our outlay in the sale of players who want out or are not required any more then that's a good thing isn't it. It gives us more room to keep on strengthening. It would be great if there was some cash available in January to help push onto something really positive.

Laurie, I'm thinking of having £500 on us for the year after, it might be enough to set me up for life!

Fair of course re Rhys Alexander but wrong place for it on a celebratory thread. Otherwise we end up feeling guilty about any kind of good times mate. Applies to many things in life.

I was just looking at the list of players that Koeman has brought in since he joined last summer and he's done quite well I think.
Stekelenburg & Valencia were maybe his two weakest but everyone else look like they could be great players
Pickford - Next 1st choice England keeper
Williams - Some may say he's slow but great experience
Keane -
Gana
Schneiderlin
Klaassen
Bolasie - I'd say he's licking his lips looking at the new signings
Lookman
Sandro
Henry - Looks an exciting prospect to come in next year.
DCL - Koeman must rate him considering how often he played him last season. Like Davies seems to have made the step up to the first team reasonably well but early days.

After one season he's more or less replaced a whole team though it might take time to bed them in.

I've a feeling there won't be any ugency now for Sigurdsson.

Brian, my feeling is it is Sigurdsson or Barkley. It hardly seems like clubs are queuing up to sign Barkley, so perhaps he will sign a new contract now.

Then we can concentrate on signing a big target man to replace Rom, such as Dolberg or Dembele, and then someone with a bit more skill and guile as an alternative, such as Bacca. I would also like to sign a pacy winger such as Behrami. Those are three positions I would like to strengthen with the Lukaku money.

Mike, my aunty who hires the boats out in Sefton Park saw Lukaku paddling around this morning in fine style. According to her, he is a real master boater. At least, I think that's what she said.

I have just watched this clip and he is a very talented player. I loved the opening slide showing he was linked to the RS & Manure.

if Moyes was still here I would be worried about the ruining of another forward. He looks class
