Oviedo gets U21s run-out

Bryan Oviedo got another chance to build his fitness this evening when he played an hour of Everton's U21s' 3-1 defeat at Manchester City.

Everton look to continue their improving form this weekend and take another step back towards re-joining the chase for a place in the top four as Swansea City come to Goodison Park. Romelu Lukaku suffered a recurrence of his toe problem in the win over Burnley but is expected to play and, with no new injury concerns, Roberto Martinez will have the same squad available for selection as last weekend.

Record Profit for Everton in 2013-14

Everton have announced record profits of over £28m and reduced the club's debt by more than £17m according to the club’s annual report for 2013-14. Turnover increased by 39%, thanks largely to the new TV rights deals to £120.5m while operating profit before player trading increased from £0.7m to £23m.

Everton won at Turf Moor for the first time in 44 years as Samuel Eto'o scored two terrific goals and Romelu Lukaku atoned for an awful error that gifted Burnley an equaliser by scoring to make it 2-1 at half-time. Eto'o's insurance goal, a beauty from 25 yards, killed off a spirited effort by the home side five minutes from time. And the Cameroonian almost grabbed a hat-trick but, having rounded the 'keeper, he rolled a late shot off the post from a tight angle.

Two of Everton's summer signings faced off against each other this evening in Zenica as Bosnia-Herzegovina met Belgium in Euro2016 qualifying. Both Muhamed Besic and Romelu Lukaku were in the starting line-ups, winning their 16th and 34th caps respectively, although the former only lasted 56 minutes before being withdrawn. The two teams played out a 1-1 draw.

Everton secured a precious away point from a difficult Group H match in Russia against an enterprising Krasnodar team thanks to Samuel Eto'o's 83rd-minute equaliser. The Blues had ridden their luck in the early going but then fell behind shortly before half time when Ari capitalised on poor defending to lash the ball past Tim Howard. Everton pressed more as the match wore on, though, and were rewarded when Eto'o ghosted onto Leighton Baines's cross to steer the ball home from close range.
