Thanks, Tony. A excellent read. Maybe in these leaner times we are guilty of dwelling a little too much on our past. However, I find these historic pieces quite fascinating, not merely from an Evertonian perspective but also due to each one being a little piece of social history as well. Please keep them coming!

Tony, this is another top piece of work. Like Dennis I get a real sense of the time from your research. I even checked to see if Mrs Parry was related as I am descended from one of many Kirkdale Smiths and I have a great great aunt Elizabeth. Alas no luck.......

Brilliant piece of work, Tony, as are all your articles.

Love the nostalgia, the local teams, Bootle and "that", used to train there back in the day (not play) the gulf in class between a decent Sunday league and that bunch was something, which begs the question why canÂ’t some players pass five yards or control a ball who play now!

Another great article about the clubÂ’s formative yrs and the characters that featured in them. Brilliant.
