Superbly colourful story incorporating lots of tit bits and minutia from the ages. The first league title won at Anfield was won by then residents, Everton, an endearing fact and reminder of the way it was back then. His circumnavigation of the Welsh leagues after leaving the Blues was an adventure with the inevitable licensee portion to the declining years.

The great thing though is that Everton as a club never forgot him and would regularly get him out of hock in various tough and unpleasant circumstances. A few Charlie Parry's in the present day squad would certainly liven up proceedings and looks the sort to have given short shrift when it came to being told to play out of position.

God bless our distant past and here's to reclaiming ourselves in the future. Thank you, Rob, for the effort in getting this tale out there. One of hundreds, if not thousands laying around untapped in the shadows of this historic club.

I love players with a bit of attitude. I love that photo, wonder what Schneiderlin would make of him? Cheers Rob

Great read, Rob. I too salute your remarkable detective work in resurrecting this history. That initial photo is striking, a glimpse into a life that could have been forgotten but for his family.

Interesting reminder that for every celebrated old-time hero we read about, there were dozens, perhaps hundreds of footballers who were ultimately defeated by life, weighed down by poverty, drink, and in Charlie's case a seemingly persistent temper.

Seems like a bit of a nutter! But great story.

Thank you, Rob.

What a character. Brilliant stuff and I loved the name of the 'fellow Welsh international, who replaced Charlie in one game', Smart Arridge.

Great read. Thanks, Rob.
