Can the class of '92 be repeated with the Everton U20 World cup winners?

Mark Twain once said in a quote that history does not repeat itself but it often rhymes. So if this is true then why can't Everton build a team around the five youngsters that won the U20 World Cup?

Dowell, Davies, Lookman, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Kenny, like Manchester United did with Beckham, Butt, Giggs, Scholes, Gary Neville and Phil Neville. [I include Davies, who would have gone to the U20WC if permitted by Everton, and not Connolly as he was mainly a substitute.]

Don't forget that the likes of Beckam went on loan to Preston, and our own Kieren Dowell is getting rave reviews at Forest. The team spirit between the five Everton lads is strong with three local lads, so this must be the recipe that United used.

Will Ronald Koeman take a chance and use the class of '92 model or would David Unsworth in partnership with, say, Joe Royle work better.

Everton have got a chance here to build something special, but will the club and the fans have patience to let it develop?

Paul, you just might have something. It would be bold to throw in a lot of young players, but our first eleven are bereft of confidence. How Lookman doesn' t get a chance is beyond me.

I was listening to 5Live's Monday Night Club a couple of weeks ago. One of them stated that things might be better if Koeman had said to us; 'I'm going to play the kids this season. We might take a hit for now, but watch us go after that.'

I'd be curious about what people think of that one.

Bear in mind the Class of '92 followed championship winning teams in a well-run club with an excellent manager. Whatever the merits of throwing our kids in, there's no comparison.

Nice positive post to lift the gloom. Sadly, I think Paul Tran has it right though.

Koeman play the kids? Scoff!

He won't even play Calvert-Lewin in the No 9 position for back-to-back games. Holgate is playing less this season than last, the reason being: Cuco Martina. Lookman must have had an affair with his daughter or something.

Dowell and Connolly are shifted out of sight and out of mind. Jonjoe Kenny is "a talent" but not good enough for more than a handful of appearances.

Then Tom Davies, our jewel of the academy, is now shifted onto the bench. He's also frozen out the former boy wonder in Ross Barkley.

So, could it be that agent Koeman is sent by Ajax to de-rail our promising academy? I jest but there's no chance of Koeman developing those 5. Calvert-Lewin might get somewhere, the rest will fade away and drop a division.
