Everton Anthem

Look, I know that every pissed/socially relaxed Blue has "A Brilliant Idea", so here's another....

To Audrae Mae's Version of Bob Dylan's “Forever Young”, used in "Sons Of Anarchy".

For Everton

May Gods Acre keep you always
May Your wishes all come true
May You always stand by other Blues
And they will stand by You
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung

May you play for Everton
May you play for Everton

May you grow up to be righteous
Only grow up to be Blue
May you always know & tell the truth
And surrounding yourself with Blues
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong

May you play for Everton
May you play for Everton

May your feet always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
May "Z Cars" always be sung

May you play for Everton
May you play for Everton

Everton
Everton

May you play for Everton

One of Dylan's finest, Alex. Planet Waves?

The thing about a good football anthem is that it should be slow. Think about the dirges they sing across the park... YNWA, Fields of Anny Wotsit etc. They are funeral in tempo and so people can keep up, across the terraces.
We, by contrast, have Billy Maher leading us in Grand Old Team at a rate of knots. Love the song... wish we could slow it down.

Apropos of nothing, for me, there is nothing like Sunshine on Leith sung by the Hibbees. Bring a tear to a glass eye.

Alan

Yup, Planet Waves, with The Band.

Written as a lullaby for his lad, so slow enough.

Grand Old Team was originally a Celtic song wasn't it?

That 'Grand Old Team' is typical Scouse humour taking the piss out of ourselves before the other lot does.

On reflection, it is about a long forgotten time that the majority of today's fans can barely remember if at all. Time we binned it.

If we're going to plunder the Dylan archive, "Tangled Up In Blue" seems appropriate to us masochists.

I think “It's a grand old team to play for” is a Celtic FC song. I first heard it sang by the fans of St Anthony's of Scotland Road when their school played cup finals at Goodison Park and Anfield in the late 1940s and early 1950s; maybe some of their elderly fans could vouch for this?

I never went to St Anthony's, I went to The Friary school not far from St Anthony's, St Sylvestor's and All Souls. By the way, The Friary, aka Netherfield Road Roman Catholic, was better than those three other schools.

Dick (3) no, it shouldn't be binned, I bet it has a lot of good memories for plenty of people, not necessarily Everton fans.
