Sounds like he was as good with his hands as his feet,real sticky fingers.

I’d dig him up and play him tomorrow instead of Iwobi or Sigurdsson!!

My Dad used to talk about Dicky Forshaw. Along the lines of, a good player, came from Liverpool, a bit of a rogue.

I think he rated him as a player. For me to remember him, he must have mentioned him several times

This just shows the media bias has been going on for the best part of 100 years and not just a recent phenomena.

8 years and 288 games playing for the dark side
2 and a bit years and 42 games for the Blues

But the newspaper title is still "Former Everton Player Sentenced"

Even back in the 30s the media were in love with that shower across the Park.

He obviously had excellent pace even after his retirement from football:

"...whom it was revealed had committed the crimes within two hours of having been released from his previous sentence, claimed he had been drinking heavily at the time. "

So he got out, got bombed, got into multiple thefts and got caught in the same amount of time it took to play a full game. That's fast.

and now a lot of footballers just steal a living and never do time. Just goes to show though, that smashing rocks all day did not deter him one bit.

Just as any amoeba can't begin to comprehend the obscene pay now given to players of today it's a struggle to realise the "ordinariness" good/great players were reduced to back in the day.

Is anyone able to identify a year when salaries were appropriate in reflecting performance?

Thanks Jamie, that’s some story.It would be a good film script.

As many have stated the infamy for his wrong doings, is linked to him being an ex Everton player, but whom played for the RS, for most of his career.

Staggering just like now the prejudice shown by the media.

I didn’t intend the article to suggest a media bias regarding Forshaw’s football career at the Merseyside clubs in the context of his criminal escapades, the newspaper reports of the time pretty much always list him as formerly of both clubs at some stage. Within the article separate headlines list him as “former Everton“ and “former Liverpool“ player. I didn’t see any bias reflected in researching the piece, I’m afraid people have jumped on this in the comments somewhat erroneously.
