Everton have announced that should a replay be required against Wigan, the game would take place at the DW Stadium on Wednesday 13th March at 7.45pm.

The club would be allocated 4,800 tickets for the replay if neither side wins tomorrow's quarter final at Goodison Park.

This could only happen at Everton, what sort of football club contemplates a replay before they have played the game.

Peter, it's not really anything to do with Everton. Normally replays are held around 10 days after the original fixture. It used to be the immediate Tuesday or Wednesday after but the Police changed it about 15 years ago (I think).

GM Police have obviously liaised with Wigan and agreed that any potential replay would be the following Wednesday. Everton giving fans a heads up is sensible, as 15 years ago many of these games would've been cash on the door, but now there's ticketing to sort out.

I'm all for pointing out when the club falls short, but don't think this is one of those instances.

Matt, this is on the Everton website, so it is to do with Everton. Nice to see a good positive attitude coming out of our club. Is it any wonder that posters on this forum have a negative view on things, it all eminates from our club.

Oh FFS Peter! They are trying to help the fans prepare for any eventuality.

The fixture list on the website also contains slots for the Semi-Final and Final. I suppose you'll construe that one as sheer arrogance or something?

Phil.
Every man and his dog knows that cup replays are played the Tuesday or Wednesday of the second week following the game, do we need the club to tell us this, do you actually think that supporters are not aware of this. Do you actually believe that supporters cannot work out when 10/11 days after the original game is.

Phil, the replays are scheduled for that midweek, thats why the premier league leave it free

Peter I wouldn't have believed that some fans can't figure out when 4 days after the original game is but you've proved me wrong.....it's simple maths really 13 - 9 = 4! Today is the 9th, Wednesday is the 13th, that makes it only 4 days not 10/11.
Hence the reason the club are giving fans a heads up!
Some people are just hell bent on criticising the club no matter what.

Well, let's use the next half hour till MK or LL close this thread off to...
Reminisce about your most memorable cup ties with multiple replays, before they got limited to 1 replay and pens.

Mine was 1988. 3rd round drawn away to Sheff Wed. Went to 3 replays. First three games were 1-1, and obviously the 3rd replay was expected to be tight. I'd bunked off school for the afternoon (although the games teacher was a Blue, and gave me a nod and a wink, so I don't really count it as bunking off). Couple of mates fancied it, including a Red, so quick trips home to get changed, I got the tickets for Barnes Travel, and we met in the Brick for a couple of pints.

Got there late due to traffic in Manc - coppers told us we'd missed the first goal, coach dropped us right outside the turnstiles - straight into the child's concession, even though we were 17, and in just in time to see Adrian Heath add to Graeme Sharp's opener. 5-0 at half time with Sharp completing his hatrick and Snodin adding one just before the break.

Then the Amberline coaches arrived. The Hillsborough scoreboard was showing ads, and a fella who come in and stood by us refused to believe we were 5 up. 2nd half was a non-event.

If memory serves me right, the 4th round tie with Middlesborough went to 2 replays, so by the time we played and lost at home to Liverpool in the 5th round, we'd already played enough games to have won the thing.

Older fans will remember the three games it took us to beat Man City in 1966. None of the penalty kick conclusions we see nowadays. I seem to remember that it was pissing down at Maine Rd and the police came barging into our end following a bit of trouble, They stopped in front of us and one big burly bastard grabbed a completely innocent lad in a leather jacket saying "You'll do" and dragged him out in a headlock before frog marching him off with another copper. Don't know what happened to the lad but it did little to garner respect for the Police in anyone who witnessed it. Bastards.

Everton are rightfully informing supporters of date of the replay - given that it may only be 4 days away, which in modern times is highly unusual, must be down to the fact that there are internationals scheduled for the following week. It just shows that the police can be flexible in particular circumstances.

Those were the days Matt, my memorable replay was Gillingham in 1984, we had to go down there twice following a 0-0 draw at Goodison, it was a Monday night, freezing and snow, terrible journey there and back but worth it when we eventually triumphed 3-0 and went on to win the cup at Wembley. The other replay that stuck out in my mind was when having drawn 0-0 at the Dell we replayed at Goodison where Eamon O'Keefe got the winner - I think it was in extra-time - the club said the crowd was around 35,000 but it seemed like a lot more than that.

I remember, way back this morning, when Peter Bell made a monumental cock up allowing Bobby McDermott to tap in an open goal.

Yeah, its next week for goodness sake. And don't Everton fans arrive en masse at Wigan for league games? Jeez... Moyes out blah blah...
