Never was I a fan of casual attire on the touchline but now I damn sure am.

The most bizarre thing about the game tonight was the referee's performance. Every time in the first half a Red Shite player fouled one of us, the ref gave us a free kick!
It was absolutely nuts!!!

I don't blame Klopp for losing his head, the ref took it upon himself to apply the rules equally to both sides. Mark my words… the're will be repercussions over this. UTFT.

I don't think anyone left the game until 10 minutes after the match finished. That game erased most of the season's miseries, well, for me anyway.

I really have no words for Jordan Pickford. He is quite simply immense. For every clanger that so many on here pounce on him for, there are many more defining and saving moments that they never mention.

I've never seen Jarrad so emotional after a match. He's a steely sort of fella, but he was in bits at the end and kissing the badge. What a player he is.

They really turned it on tonight and everyone put a shift in, for an all-round brilliant performance. Even the referee had a decent game, penalising the sly shoves and digs the RS usually get away with.

Having said that, I cannot believe how well Everton played tonight. While I am a big fan of Calvert-Lewin and Pickford, I have to say everyone scored a 10 from me tonight.

Harrison, who has come in for a lot of stick recently, was immense. I thought the tactics and the defending were incredible and, while the shite had a couple of efforts at the end of the first half, I felt we were comfortable and they never looked like scoring.

While I am not a fan of the style of football Dyche advocates, it certainly does support the players we have. We don't have the quality to play like Man City. So overall, given how we have been performing and the gulf between the teams, it is truly amazing we ran out comfortable winners.

Some of our better squads over the years have not performed so well, so take a bow, Sean Dyche and team, for a wonderful night and for lifting my gloom. COYB

The tide has turned.

It is difficult to give a cold, logical assessment of a game that carries so much more emotion and toward the end I thought that we had been the far superior side but then recalled that Pickford had made at least half-a-dozen good, important saves – but then, which saves aren't?

I was worried that the penalty was denied because a couple of players seemed too lazy to get back onside but then Godfrey saved a certain goal.

Then on the first goal, the VAR took far too long to make a decision that didn't look that difficult. If the offside law is that difficult, then make it easier, was the player in an offside position (defender inline or between attacker and goal) when the ball was played by the last onside player.

Calvert-Lewin's finish, even though he was unchallenged, was that of a centre-forward, although at times some of his movement was a worry, and in others he deserved somebody up there with him.

The Gana sub worried me as I didn't think he was the player who should have come off but MotM couldn't be any other than Branthwaite. I'd rather we didn't part ways with him owing to financial considerations but if we do then it has to be for a minimum of £50M plus a couple of players of our choice.

A win or draw with both Luton and Sheffield Utd should be more than enough to guarantee another Premier League season and I suppose it would be difficult not to keep Dyche for another season.

We are capable of beating any opposition if we get a grip. This should be looked at as a turning point and I feel we should aim to get 10 points from last 4 games and it is very well possible.

We have had very few nights or days at Goodison Park where the atmosphere was electric, and the performance and result followed suit. I believe last night was one of those, hitherto all-too-rare occasions.

The vitriol and disdain we have had from the Red Shite and their supporters over the years was somewhat exorcised by this result. To also cement a rise from the pit of relegation, and to derail their narrowing Title hopes were also icing on a long-standing mouldy cake.

I really hope we all get behind Sean Dyche to the full for the rest of the season and beyond. I know 'one swallow doesn't make it a summer' but I believe there is a decent manager in there considering the things he has had to endure since being in charge.

Many have asked for his dismissal which I think after last night's display, was not only premature but totally knee-jerk in retrospect. I was getting a bit disillusioned with poor performance after poor performance, picking the (almost) same players and repeating, not stringing passes together, too late substitutions etc.

I am not saying that result last night was a one-off but it may just be a significant building block for what is to come.

There were virtually no passengers last night although Doucoure did less than most, even Harrison showed glimpses that he may be decent after all. Gana, Branthwaite, Tarkowski, Pickering, Calvert-Lewin all stood out especially. Godfrey was great at right-back, a position he has seemed ill at ease coping with, and saved a certain goal threat from them.

No, I can't criticise last night's display in any way, shape or form, and with it being against 'them', it made it all the sweeter. Maybe the tide has turned, but still too early too get the deck chairs out!

Two goals given against us despite being for the other team - a foul throw not given and our players booked for kicking Everton players despite clearly wearing our badge - which we simply cannot accept.

We warned the PGMOL that the VAR isn't a Liverpool fan before the game but they didn't change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. (Well, that time at Spurs, obvs)

Shithouse FC will now consider its options.

There's been far too much selling and acceptance of the sub-mediocre when 'good' was never out of reach. We know what this club really is and what it should be.

We've spent months watching the same old ultra-conservative dirge. And I include the last two home wins before this game in that, though it's much easier to live with dirge when it gets results.

Suddenly, we were braver in the way approached the game. We did get players forward to support our striker. We did break with numbers. We did try things.

I didn't even mind Calvert-Lewin's effort from his own half – be instinctive and try things when the moment comes. Goodison will always get behind that.

We've been too happy not to lay a glove on teams. Tonight, we beat that lot into submission.

I do wonder whether Liverpool suffered the 'Their Cup Final' moment that we've had so often in these games. They were desperate for the win while I think the pressure came off us a bit after the Forest result and the lack of expectation around the game for most Blues.

While we looked confident within our system, they basically played our game and completely lost their heads, committing silly fouls and then defending the resulting set pieces terribly. You won't see defending anywhere this week as bad as there's for the Calvert-Lewin goal. How does no-one go anywhere near a big Number 9?

Credit to everyone involved on the blue side. I'll even give Dyche a nod for picking them up after that Chelsea defeat. It takes some man-management to turn out that performance. That doesn't change my view that we should employ someone with appropriate standards for this club.

Quite how he managed to see out the half defies logic having suffered an injury like that myself. It's no wonder the Ukrainian lads are giving the Russians such a tough time.

Enjoying the moment this morning and it's nice to see so much neutral support for Everton on the BBC Have Your Say column – which is up to about 2,500 comments so far after last night.

I came out of the Forest game delighted because you could feel the pressure lifting towards the end of the game and I instinctively knew that Goodison was going to be a much more positive place because of this.

Oh joy unbridled, as we said to each other last night. Young and Harrison, you both surprised me. Well done. And Godfrey hung on in there, too.

MotM? Take your pick from Pickford, Branthwaite, Calvert-Lewin or Gueye. I'd go for Gueye who was everywhere!

"The Trent" had run dry by the time of our second goal, chickening out of a challenge to try to stop our Calvert-Lewin.

Pickford was immense, best shot stopper in the Premier League, Brantwaite is the best central defender out there. We must do everything to keep him! Calvert-Lewin, hopefully, last night's performance will see him kick on for the rest of the season and beyond.

We defended well, rode our luck and took our chances. We can do no more than that.

Hard to single out players as everyone put in a shift but the back 4 and Pickford were immense, even our old mate Ashley Young. When he came on at half-time everyone nearby said, "Oh shit, Young v Salah..." but he wasn't really tested.

It was strange; if I was Klopp, I'd be saying "Give it to Salah every time," but they barely passed it to him, preferring Diaz on the left (who was their only decent performer). Salah look liked he couldn't be arsed, he was dreaming of a big Saudi payoff at the end of the season.

Appreciate all players were fantastic. However, I was pleased for Ashley Young. I feared the worst when he came on. Not sure how much he had to do but whatever it was, it was enough!

Super performance and we are nearly safe. The Chelsea performance has somehow got a reaction in the last 2 games. Happy Blues everywhere.

Suspecting the worst, I couldn't bring myself to watch it last night so was out at the theatre. What a treat was in store when I came out of a very long play!

Just watched it back and we were fantastic. Committed, organised, cohesive, dangerous at set-pieces and on the break. Everything that we might expect from a successfully functioning Sean Dyche side.

And I think credit has to go to the manager and the players for turning around the results and performances after the horror show at Chelsea. 41 points from 34 games in a season marred by points deduction and absent ownership is a very solid return with a squad that has been stripped of its best talents.

After some on here decried certain relegation (for the third season in a row) after Chelsea, the bookies now have us at 50/1. I can't see both Luton getting 9 points and Forest 8 points from their remaining 4 games and, even if that miracle occurred, with confidence returned, we would surely fancy a few more points at home to Brentford or Sheffield United.

To dent the RS title effort is the sweetest of cherries but the main thing is that we are all but safe and thoughts can turn to next season.

I must admit I went to the game expecting the worst given our awful track record against them at Goodison Park. But as you say, from Minute 1, the players showed that they weren't there just to make up the numbers, and were there to let them know we were up for the fight, which hasn't always been the case. When we did attack, we attacked in numbers which we haven't done a lot this season.

There were good performances from every player and Dyche's maxim of "minimum requirement is maximum effort" was definitely the rallying cry last night.

I think there were 3 outstanding performances last night and all 3 deserve the MotM award. Pickford made 3 outstanding saves, Jarrad Branthwaite is, in my opinion, the best English centre-back, his positional sense for such a young player is unbelievable. Finally Gana Gueye was simply immense ,he broke up attacks made quite a few interceptions and showed a calmness on the ball that was an inspiration to his team mates.

Also I didn't give Calvert-Lewin a MotM award but that was the best I have seen him for a long time, he bullied Liverpool's centre-back pairing, they just couldn't handle him.

I have been critical of Sean Dyche but last night he got the tactics spot-on – something he hasn't done often enough, and last night showed, against one of the best sides in the Premier League, this team are capable of a lot more than they have showed this season.

Finally, like many I was a little worried when Mykolenko went off and was replaced by Young, but fair play to Young, he played well.

Someone was singing ‘Falling In Love Again' after the match. I know what he meant.

I'm still in a bit of shock after last night I think. Intensity did for the RS, they really didn't know what hit em. Joy of joys seeing Virgil van Dork and Gnashers Klopp looking so confused and upset.

An honorary mention goes to Godfrey for his shithousery at corners, barging Van Dijk all over the place for Calvert-Lewin to plant his header home.

I thought the effort and contributions spoke very loud about the team spirit in the squad. It would have been easy to throw in the towel after Chelsea – but they haven't.

I suppose the question will be: Why haven't we been able to deliver results like this consistently? For me, that is answered by the fact we have a small squad of limited ability, plus the generally demoralising circumstances of a double points deduction and the failed or stalled takeover. There's nothing really more to see in that respect.

Otherwise, it was a very Joe Royle style performance and approach to the match – total commitment, no undue respect, and bullying them at set pieces. And indeed Dyche shares a lot of similarities with Royle as a manager. Let's hope Thelwell can find a Kanchelskis this summer to add a bit of real quality and pace to the attack.

Maybe that was a lucky sign as it certainly brought back many happy memories of that night. Well, I never thought for one minute we were going to have another special evening under the lights. Superb performance from the boys with more special memories for all Evertonians.

We played so well, they seemed stunned and shocked. I'm still buzzing and, as many have said, the post-match Red Shite were very ungracious and were like people watching a car crash. They seemed to be in shock… ha ha, pure class. UTT's

I doubted the wisdom of Gomes's omission, but obviously Dyche got it totally spot on last night. Full marks to all concerned.

He was getting increasingly frustrated that he couldn't get where he wanted to be on the field as an Everton player was on the patch of grass he wanted to be. The frustration of 'get out of my way' when the player was more than allowed to be there.

It was a great team effort and thoroughly deserved win!

It is often said 2-0 is a dangerous lead but there was a strange feeling around the ground in the last 10 minutes that we had won the game while Liverpool had run out of ideas. Their fans clearly thought so as the majority headed for the exits. That always sends a positive message to the opposition!

I have been fortunate to attend 128 derbies in all competitions. The only win I have missed was the one at Anfield during Covid. Including that 2-0 win, we have enjoyed 22 derby triumphs in the last 56 years. All the wins were achieved through a high intensity approach based on solid defensive work. In those 22 wins, we kept 19 clean sheets which are generally the key to success even for our most talented teams.

Back to this season: clean sheets have been the key to our improvement under Dyche. We have now kept the opposition blank in 11 matches which have delivered 29 points. Some fans decry the notion of prioritising defensive solidity but for a team which never looks comfortable when dominating possession, it really is vital to be compact in shape with every player working their socks off to deny opponents space to work in. Unless or until we are able to recruit more talented attackers, it is the only approach which will deliver the results we need to stay in this league.

I have read on this site laughable comments such as "Dyche is a dinosaur." I contend he is far from that. He is quite simply a manager who makes the best of what he has available. There will be hiccups along the way, and the Chelsea defeat was one hell of a hiccup, but I believe Dyche is the manager best equipped to take this club forward over the next few years. Sacking him in the summer would be absolute lunacy. I just hope new owners, if indeed we have them, are not lunatics.

I've worried and fretted since the 10-point deduction and I'm still worried now. I worry that we are going to batter Arsenal and give those bastards another chance of robbing the title.

Although they might take some time to recover from that beating last night, a night to remember.

There's still time for the Premier League to find another reason to deduct us points, but I would be surprised if that was to come to fruition.

Well done and I truly appreciate the loyalty (many times unrewarded) people like yourself Rob H, Neil C, Bill W, Stephen V, and many many more, who brave it to the likes of Bournemouth, only to return disappointed.

I reckon a lot of those disappointments were partly nullified by that memorable and long-overdue result and performance last night. Long may that continue.

I've been following Everton for 58 years. (And I know you have for even longer!) In all those years, Arsenal (A) has been the least productive fixture. They even won in 84-85!

I don't think The Gunners need fret if they need to beat us in the last game to clinch the title.

This is the first time he's seen us win in person. The unbridled joy on his face when the goals went in and at the full-time whistle brought a tear to my eye.

Great post mate, you made me count up my derbies and you beat me by 18, which kind of surprised me as we are pretty much of the same age. But it is a good few years since I made the quest to Mordor.

My first was 1962 a 2-2 draw, I seem to remember that they equalised with the last kick. Well over 70,000 inside Goodison. My first at our old ground was a 4-0 win for us, Mogsey celebrating wildly after scoring against his old team!!!

I didn't actually see us lose a derby until the 1966 Charity Shield. That season was the last time we did the double over them I think.

You are spot on about Dyche, I don't like him nor his style of football but his pragmatism is precisely what we need at this moment in time but I have a feeling that it may well get worse before it gets better. So your lunacy comment is absolutely accurate.

Dyche has been dogged on here by some for his style of play which I think has been overstated. A manager has to play to his players' best chance of success, sure he could set up and try to play like Man City or Arsenal but that would make sure we were relegated in my opinion.

We should be on 41 points and comfortably safe now with every chance of more to follow. To endure what he has had to this season and still be positive and upbeat takes some doing.

Talk of sacking him at the end of the season is crazy as we are likely to be in worse shape next season squad wise than this season.

We have seen Richarlison and Gordon taken away.

Years of the fans' discontent with the boardroom and owner.

We've seen players injured and players having to slot into their place, we have seen some awful nervous performances, but never has a football club been punished as much as Everton, not just boardroom level, but also from the powers of the corrupt Premier League.

We questioned if the players cared, we questioned the manager; last night both the players and manager showed they cared.

We have to be patient and get the ownership sorted out, be patient that we may have to bring loan players in, forced to yet again sell players, but we will still be Everton Football Club and in time we will get out of the mess we are in.

Last night showed that it is us against the world and we are winning.

Do not let the powers of the Premier League divide our fan base, we are all in this together, united as one we will rise again, but it will not happen overnight, but we will get there.

Last night's game definitely went a long way to making up for the disappointments. We have suffered too many humiliating defeats in recent years. Bill Shankly once said in an interview after he had retired that a derby victory can be a catalyst for a change of fortune for the winning club.

An example was our 3-1 win in 1966 in Alan Ball's first derby. We had been outclassed a fortnight earlier in the Charity Shield but the win and Bally's two goals signalled a new era when we generally had the upper hand.

Of course the pendulum shifted in the other direction in November 1970 when we lost 3-2 after leading 2-0. I think that was the most disappointing derby of the lot.

Let's hope last night marked another shift of the pendulum.

To cap it off, some little girl as we passed Goodison started singing "Everton, Everton, Everton."

Absolutely fantastic! I still can't believe we beat them.

The atmosphere there last night was the best there's been for many a long year.

Tarkowski's tackle, Calvert-Lewin's rag-dolling them and the referee not being a red puppet are highlights, as was Rooney owning Carragher and just sitting with a fantastic, smug smirk.

The after-match interviews from them sums them up and is why everyone but Liverpool supporters hate them. They're already turning on Salah and Klopp after all they've done for them.

I've heard them repeatedly say that Everton are the thing that just won't flush; they will just always be, ‘the stain that never fades'.

I don't know where to begin really…

Every single person of a blue persuasion who was there last night was responsible for that victory. The players responded to the fans and vice versa, and that perfect storm of togetherness carried us to a much-needed and thoroughly deserved victory.

The thing that struck me most was the faces on the kids in the crowd. I sit in the Family Enclosure so, as you can imagine, young toffees are absolutely everywhere and without exception, each and every one of them (no matter their age) had never seen us beat them.

They had never seen us win a derby.

Not a trophy – a derby.

Never.

Well now they have. 💙

Walking along Walton Lane on the way home with my 2 nephews (aged 11 and 16), I felt grateful that they both had now seen us win a derby at Goodison before we move home.

Honourable mentions for the much maligned Messrs Harrison, Godfrey, Pickford, Gueye, Calvert-Lewin & Dyche.

Upon reflection, can we just pick up Ben Godfrey and parade that kid on a palanquin around Liverpool this week?

That goal line clearance he made was immense. If we go down 0-1 and he doesn't make that spectacular defensive play, do the shite get their tails up after our penalty was called off after offside? Are we again in a sea of misery failing to win yet another derby?

Ben Godfrey was immense yesterday. He was fantastic when we signed him and just wasn't the same after he got Covid. He's been darn good this season and I think we're seeing a return to the player we originally signed.

Great, great play, great, great game, and absolutely vital was Ben in securing a win.

He has lost his way over the past couple of years. His injuries and illness will undoubtedly have contributed significantly to that. There is a very good player in there.

Whether it was his own decision, or he was under orders, it was fascinating watching him last night. He played very narrow, giving Diaz a lot of space. The rs fed the ball to Diaz constantly, he’s a tricky player who caused us a few problems but, overall, Godfrey came out well from the battle.

Agree Godfrey was immense. I have rated the lad since he first arrived, it was such a pity he had a poor patch – hopefully back to his best and stays with the Toffees.

Jamie #201, I'll add my agreement to Pete's -- in fact I planned on posting something similar, having watched the game again this morning on the club site.

Godfrey has struggled not only with his health but his identity -- he's a scorchingly fast player with a fierce appetite for a tackle, but he cannot pass the ball or track an overlapping winger, and therefore isn't a modern fullback. He has a natural positional affinity for the center of the box, but he cannot win any aerial challenge, and therefore will struggle as a center back. 20 years ago he might have been the perfect "marking back" playing in front of a sweeper and cleaning up tackles, but that defensive alignment has gone out of style, and he cannot play the modern 6 because of his inability to safely dispose of the ball.

What he does have is the poise and ability to make the spectacular, saving tackle. He has done it several times this season. Yesterday's was barely noticed by many at the moment it happened, but I agree with you that it was unquestionably the play of the game.

Why has it taken Dyce 8 months to find the right blend of fast fit players and pressing strategy that he stumbled across a few months ago. He then lost it seeking not to lose games. Tonight we went back to pressing teams and not letting them pick their passes uncontested.

Calvert-Lewin played a blinder tonight but I am very concerned that we are about to do another "Rooney" type blunder by selling Branthwaite. He started the first goal and finished by putting the ball into the net. He inspires the rest of the defence and should be with us for the next 10 years.

Currently every position in the league is worth £2.1M in prize money and the next three games with Branthwaite's influence could bring us another £8M+.

Next season Beto, Dobbin, Paterson and Garner all young players will have more experience and will all gel better as a team.

We will have lower salaries with 8 players coming to the end of their contracts instead give Branthwaite a salary rise to 90k p/w.

The 8 players Deli Alli (£100k+ p/w thanks to Frank), Coleman, Young, Gueye, Gomes, Danjuma, Harrison and Lonergan.

We could also sell Holgate, Maupay, Keane and Onana.

I would take the 6/7 points hit for next season because Spurs, Chelsea and others will be drawn into the net and watch the criteria change

Next season with Branthwaite and most of the others we will be challenging for Europe and in our first season at the new stadium, we will be challenging for Champions League positions.

Without Branthwaite, we will be in this position next season and maybe lower.

I just hope his head isn't turned with 'offers' from the so called big boys. I really do believe we have the nucleus of a very good, but not great side, and a manager who has proved he is right for the job in hand. Great managers in the past have been so close to the sack (Alex Ferguson for one) only to turn it round and create history.

If, somehow we can grab a few more bargains in the summer, prune the expensive players out of contract and a drain on wages, have a good pre-season, this season will be chalked down as a bad experience – but one we survived !

Ignoring the potential need to sell our assets for financial reasons, and assuming he will go at some stage, it would be great to get at least one more season out of him.

Playing weekly as opposed to possibly occasionally at a club like Man City or Arsenal should be good for a younger player.

We should enjoy him while we have him.

Also, a sidenote about Dele. I would be happy if we could offer him a mutually agreeable contract for say a year and just see if there is a player still there. I also feel that if he had been at Goodison on Wed night he would have enjoyed the scenes - assuming he wasn't there.

One "source" even suggested millions had been knocked off his estimated value following the fiasco at Stamford Bridge.
Please God if we must part ways with this young man then we hold out for £80M+.

With the use of larger squads I wondered if the rest of the tiredness argument stacked up. Looking at the starting 11 we'd played 29,783 minutes while they'd played 30,035 (including Europe) so all of an extra 22 minutes per man. The excuses are absurd. Well beaten.
