The Appeal Board that will hear Everton's arguments against the two-point deduction they were handed earlier this month will deliver its verdict before the final game of the 2023-24 season, the Premier League have confirmed.

According to the original timetable set out by the League for the appeals process for both Everton and Nottingham Forest, all hearings and verdicts of the two clubs' respective appeals against sanctions for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules had to be complete by 24 May, five days after the season finishes.

Responding to criticism that the outcome of the relegation battle wouldn't be known for sure at the final whistle on the last day of the season, the League has now confirmed its intention to deliver the final verdict on Everton's appeal before 19 May to "provide certainty to all clubs and fans". The outcome of Forest's appeal is expected in early May.

According to a statement, the Appeal Board will, if necessary, publish its written reasons separately, by no later than 1 June 2024, in accordance with the Premier League’s Standard Directions.

Everton's appeal is expected to reiterate the Club's assertion that rather than be punished twice in the same season, the second sanction, which they argue should also be reduced to one point, should be suspended until next season.
