BBC Radio Merseyside's Giulia Bould with her richly-deserved award

The BBC Sounds podcast series, Everton: Nothing Will Be The Same, that chronicled the Blues' turbulent 2022-23 season, won the award for Best Podcast at the British Sports Journalists' Association Awards ceremony this evening.

The series, produced by Giulia Bould and presented by Mark Chapman (who won Presenter of the Year for the second year running), saw the former embedded at the club for months where she was able to report first-hand on the goings on as the club struggled through the final few months of Frank Lampard's short-lived tenure, was roiled by protests by fans and friction with the Board, appointed Sean Dyche as Lampard's replacement and, ultimately, preserved their Premier League status on the last day of the season.

Laudably granted consistent access to interview figures at many levels of the club, despite the instability behind the scenes, Nothing Will Be The Same was a fascinating insight into what went on at Everton that season.

"We went into Everton to show how the club was going to make its way back up the League and that didn't happen. And [the series] went in a completely different direction," Giulia began her acceptance speech upon receiving the award.

"So it was a really difficult podcast to make and I'd like to thank everyone that was involved ...This couldn't have been made without the incredible access from Everton, so I'm really grateful to them.

"Thank you to everyone who has listened, thank you for this and thank you especially to the Everton fans who have really taken it to their hearts."

I’ve really enjoyed listening to this with my 13 year old son in the car.

If you haven’t heard it, it’s still on BBC Sounds and it will give you a real sense of what this Club is all about.

A Richly deserved award. Well done EFC for going along with it, at such a stressful time for the club. It's well worth a listen.

I thought the series was mostly dull as dishwater. I liked Frank as our manager at the start but to listen to him and re-live our collapse as a viable football club is just masochistic.

I enjoyed learning about Thelwell though, he seemed a good egg.
